Google Estate Auctioneers in your area, they come to you, pack it all up, catalog it, run an in person as well as on line auction, you get a nice chunk of the proceeds, they do all the work.
If it is original Militaria, I would look for an specialty appraiser/authenticator before doing anything. If you are maximizing the sale, the last thing you want is a generic auctioneer touching that stuff if it valuable. Auctioneers work on speed and they are like bookies, they get paid regardless of what it brings on both ends of the transaction. Sometimes they care more about volume and speed than maximization.
Example - in Maryland, auctioneer sold a Trophy Boat (less than 30 made), sold the figures separate entire large crew 30 plus figures brought $90. Hand built large wooden Nile River Boat brought $27.
Grand total $117...............................
Anything of real value, I would pull out for a separate sale.
