Not getting knocked down in the rush here it seems, new releases 2 days away. Although new stuff is in the pipeline for these series, not expecting at this time MG,LOJ,ALH,SOTE,AE. Possibly overdue for Imperial China though and would not be surprised to see more Custer. That grey German halftrack & desert village building would be on my wish list. Otherwise the big seller is German WW11, so BOB, DD & AK are all the cards. Any thoughts? Robin.

Would be nice to see something new for the Luftwaffe range and a RAF. P51

How does k&c decide on new releases...is there any predictability. ..for example..we got the French waiters so tables and chairs are next...also how are retired items determined. ..or it simply what Andy decides

I asked Andy how the decision was made regarding retirements at the 2012 K&C Dinner in Brisbane. I had only been collecting six months and I had missed out on the casualty figures from the ranges I was pursuing. His answer was embarrassingly simple - he has the sales figures and once a figure's sales slow down or stop they are retired to make way for items that would sell better. He also added that everything sells but it is also about the speed that they are selling, which was not something I had considered.

In a separate discussion with collectors - not involving Andy - the opinion was expressed that if enough buyers collect pieces as they are retired rather than when they are freely available it can actually contribute to an earlier retirement and curtail further releases. This should not influence anyone's buying decisions but as I have never been in business I find these kinds of things interesting.

I would guess lots of deciding factors play a part in what is released. Helen would have a major say, as she monitors what is selling and can dictate what is needed for sales. Also depends on where Andy is with his drawings and what is available for the factories to work on. There must be some degree of "When the iron is hot, strike" so it makes sense for more of the recent hot items like the Commando's and for world anniversaries etc. Certainly makes sense to follow up quickly on current themes like the tables as you mentioned and the half completed Home Guard release, no doubt there are plenty of these cases. There is a vast variety of subjects covered by K&C these days, so it's becoming very difficult to predict what's next and I suspect to some degree Andy is in the same boat with so many choices and at times demanding schedules for production. Maybe even this forum has a influence of what is next in the pipeline.{sm4}, Robin.

How far would a size of a release ... impact the popularity of the subject range ? Some new ranges are introduced with a fair high number of sets with near simultaneous and regular announcements of follow-up future sets ... for eg. the 14 Custer sets followed quickly by a large number of new Indian sets. There is a comparatively strong build up of collector's interests over a number of closely following Dispatches, more than enough to tip a collector to venture into such new ranges.

Comparing to other new ranges, introduced with a minimum of new sets, like say the Greeks or the Imperial China/3 Kingdoms ranges with a relative long time between follow-up releases. Collectors might be initially intrigued but are often uncertain and are quickly distracted by following Dispatches and soon forget about these new ranges. Sadly these interesting ranges are then doomed as being less successful sales wise.

Naturally, main stream subjects, such as WWII, NAPs, ACW are less susceptible to this phenomenon as collectors are able to "sustain and maintain" their interest with same subject releases by other manufacturers.

What do fellow collectors think ?

Commandos from the 1st Special Services Brigade will be great. Lord Lovat's commandos are long overdue. They have to move further inland Breville or Ouistreham. Operation Totalize will be also great. 2nd, 10th Waffen SS Panzer Regiment.{sm4}
