Aussies On The Move (1 Viewer)

I was disappointed that the Aussie version came out first. I understand K&C has a big Aussie following and that money talks so I get it. I will say I have bought all the Aussie figures so for but as stated I will pass on this and the centurion tank.
Gary

Well Gary, as I am sure you will agree, you can't please everyone in this hobby...As I have learned many times over the years.

That being said, in less than a year, K&C has produced TWO great 'Vietnam' vehicles for US troops in 'Nam with a THIRD one, the M42 'Duster', due to be released in a couple of months time.

Surely it's not too much to feature another great fighting vehicle to support one of your most loyal allies in that conflict..?

Fear not, K&C will produce an American version, and I hope an Israeli one too, but it's worth remembering that toy soldier collecting is a global hobby...and many collectors are not only interested in just American versions of particular fighting vehicles.

However, happy to hear you like and have collected our 'Aussies in Vietnam' figures...They've proved very popular not only in 'Oz' but all over the place...Which is just one of the many reasons why we're now producing Australian M113's and Centurions...

Plus it's great to do something a little different!

All the best and happy collecting
Andy.

Apologies in advance for the stupid question but did Australian troops wear helmets in Vietnam? I looked online and did not see any photos of them wearing helmets and none of the K&C figures have them either.

Hey I'm disappointed that Andy hasn't produced more Great War vehicles of which there many but as he always says ''Never say never''. If one takes the time and has just some small skill it wouldn't take much to convert the M113 into a Yank version. Some decals a bit of paint and there you have it :wink2:

Jason mate,
Mostly the infantrymen wore bush hats and no bullet proof vest. The tankies and the M113 crews also generally wore black berets except in the early years when M113 crews had the crew helmet issued. However to answer your question. The only photo I have of diggers wearing helmets was at Fire Support Base Coral which was partially overrun and the gunners manned weapon pits with their M60s and SLRs and wore the issued helmets (photo won't upload as it is too big). Artillerymen weren't use to coming face to face with attacking VC and NVA.
I hope this helps. Cheers Howard

Howard:

Thanks so much for the info!

Best,

Andy,
Since you are on a roll with great Aussie stuff don't forget to add artillery to the expanding list.

As regards American vehicles in Vietnam we have already had a "mule" and the Ontos. Two vehicles for the Australians seems only fair. It is just fortunate that they happen to be a M113 and Centurion as not too many options for the Aussies. Fortunate that other versions for other countries can also be done.

Heck, Australian collectors have even been known to buy American Revolution, Civil War, Alamo, and Cavalry and Indian figures.

I'd be interested in American version too, when it gets released.

Do have a question. Going by the photos on the forthcoming version, the top hatch cover and rear ramp are fixed shut. Will K&C do a version with an opening hatch, ramp and trim vane at the front at a later date ?

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the question...No, K&C will not be doing an 'Open Hatch, ramp and trim vane' version...Reason being we will be busy enough doing other 'national' versions ...

AND open hatches and the other items mentioned would necessitate full interior details and that would substantially increase the costs of production and therefore the selling price!

We also have other plans for other 'Vietnam' vehicles and we want to give those our attention and not only concentrate on just the M113.
Hope this helps explain my thoughts and reasoning.

Best wishes and happy collecting,
Andy.

Thanks for the reply Andy. Yes prices of them with no doubt effect sales and extra's put the costs up and I'm all for keeping the cost down ^&grin
And yes, I'm sure you will get other requests for M113 variants too.

Good to hear there are other vehicles other than those already mentioned in posts and I look forward to seeing them. :salute::

Cheers

Steve

Robin mate,
The answer is basically No. The M113 was the main means of transporting infantry and the mighty Centurion was used as fire support. Not nice to be on the back of a Cent when it fire a 20 pdr canister round. There were however occasions when wounded infantry would be placed on the back as the Cents withdrew, so as to return these diggers to the dust off point.
I have also seen photos of our Kiwi cousins riding on the back of the Cent. Not my cup of tea but Kiwis are Kiwis.^&grin^&grin

Cheers Howard

What can I say Howard, we breed'em tuff here in Aotearoa, "Land of the Long White Cloud".:salute::

It also pays to be a little nutty.{eek3}

Mind you, most of the Kiwi Vietnam vets I know have told me they never gave on a 'free lift' regardless of the direction.^&grin

Something to consider for a new Vietnam vehicle would be a reissue, but with appropriate markings of the M8 Greyhound armoured car for the ARVN, since they were still being used by them during Tet.

Talking about Armoured cars, how about a Cadillac Gage Commando for the Saigon M.P's ?

Cheers

Many thanks Steve for the additional Vietnam Vehicle suggestions...All welcome...

My own particular preference after the Aussie and American M113's and the Centurion would be some US and Australian Artillery in action...

However these other ideas are also very noteworthy and well worth consideration.
When it comes to the 'Vietnam War' there's plenty to choose from!

All the best and happy collecting,
Andy.

Yep no doubt about it some Artillery would win hands down and I look forward to adding a piece to my collection Andy as I'm sure many others will.

Cheers
