Interesting turn of events.

14 current Cronulla Rugby League players have a choice. Admit to taking a performance enhancing substance and face 6 month suspension or fight it and face possible 3 year ban. 3 days before their first match of the season and not known who will play. They have apparently been advised to take the 6 month suspension.

However :

Relates to 2 years ago. This means that Cronulla players who have moved to other teams would also be affected.

Not tested positive to any drugs. "Evidence" apparently based on a staff member coming forward.

The substance was provided by the team staff.

Players say not aware of what substance contained but apparently in doping cases that is not a defence.

The substance was apparently performance enhancing but was not on a banned list at that time. That is what I am finding confusing about this story but perhaps I missed something.

Cronulla lost major sponsorship deals over this.

Seems to be similar to what happening at Essendon AFL club.

Going to be interesting.

You are not the only one confused...if it was not a banned drug at the time ?...I give up...What about the AFL...not guilty of Tanking but fined half a mil......cheers TomB

Appears totally 30 players will be faced with the choice (whole Cronulla squad ?)

Substance banned in 2012 and apparently were still using it and that is the point at which problem arises.

Right I am with you....have not followed Ruby thingo lately...the AFL seem to have slowed down on the drug thing.....had nothing to do and watched a AFL game over the w/e....In the last quarter both teams looked buggered....dont these people train ? cheers TomB

Does seem a bit odd Brett, nice to get an update though. Haven't heard anything now for over a week from our lot.....typical.

Thank goodness that Brisbane NRL team has not been involved in this mess. Looking forward to a big year from them with new and young players stepping up. Chris.
