Australian Cricketer Phil Huges critical (1 Viewer)

I see Brett Lee has said 'no one tries to hit a batsman intentionally'. I saw him bowl at Piers Morgan in the nets and felt that it was amongst the most disgraceful things I have ever seen ... particularly as his sons were present.

A world class bowler doing that to a non playing, out of condition ' celeb', no that's not a sporting thing to do.

Cmon fellas he got everything he asked for being such a gob and he enjoyed all the publicity.

I disagree with that statement by Mr Lee, Jack. Maybe HE does not intentionally bowl to hit someone in the head (though saying it - and actually meaning it - may be two separate things).

BUT I HAVE known people - from my own experience of playing many sports - including Cricket - who DO intentionally bowl, to hit the head of batsmen. And I'm pretty darn sure that anyone who states otherwise - has never faced up to a quick bowler who can do it.

As in most activities in life - in sport and games, there are some people who derive a deal of pleasure - in deliberately trying to hurt other people. As a former Army PTI - I knew that - and so did most of my colleagues. We frequently ( and quite deliberately) used to let such people get on the "receiving end" sometimes - just to get to know how it felt themselves.

Hope the guy in question makes a full recovery, with no lasting bad after effects. jb

He is really disliked by many over here it's true Wayne. I think Jeremy Clarkson punched him! But Brett Lee could have taken his head off. How did we ever win the Ashes with him bowling for you?? It wasn't only the rain!^&grin I remember watching Freddie console Lee after he lost his wicket some years back, we need a Flintoff or a Botham again now.

The anticipation of next summer's Ashes will help me get me through this dreary winter that's here:rolleyes2:

Well that and the TS show a week on Sat!:salute::

Great to see supporting quotes for PH from players in countries all around the world, on the pitch no love lost between teams but off it there is a great comradeship in this game. :salute::

Get well soon

Really sorry to hear this
All the best
Usually the biggest worry is a burnt nose and all the sledging but facing some of these fast deliveries has its dangers
Boucher was also victim of freak accident a few years ago and almost lost the vision in his one eye.

Very tragic news to hear of his passing, my thoughts are with his family, friends and team mates.

This has been a jolt. Even my wife and the women in the office, none of whom are cricket fans, were upset by the news. I had to wipe away a tear or two after hearing the coverage on the radio this morning. Why?? I didn't know him and I thought he had a poor technique for test cricket . BUT he just kept scoring hundreds?? More than anyone else! I think his unorodoxy is what won you over. He shouldn't have prospered but he did. Then he'd get dropped and force his way back in with heaps of runs. You just had to admire him. He was never a whinger either. For all my misgivings about his technique I remember the first test in England last year - the one where Agar scored 98 on debut. At the other end was Hughes who got 70 odd? but you just knew, was never going to get out.
So sad for his family.
One of the papers is referring to him as 'forever 63 not out'. Kinda haunting. There's a move to pay respect by leaving your bat out at the front door. A bit sentimental for me, but....?? Then I'd have to explain it to my 4 year old who's mad about the game. I guess Phil Hughes was the same himself 21 years ago.
It's hard to think of another instance that's touched the country in the same way? Steve Irwin maybe?
Again, so sad. Time for an early night.
