Australian Light Horse (1 Viewer)

A warm welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy.

Rob

All I can say is that no other company besides K&C has the courage to create and test products that are outside of traditional miniature lines. I intend to collect this line in its entirety. Australia and New Zealand have a rich military history that is certainly appreciated.

...........

I need some more of these. It shouldn't be to hard to
interchange/modify and paint the horses a bit different. I don't do
dead horses or Turks, so seven isn't enough. :)

It would be nice to have a medic and one of those two horse drawn
ambulance carts that were used in the movie with the Red Cross flag.

I've been trying to make a resin/ceramic base with shaped indented
spaces to set the figures in with not much luck. Can't get the ground
texture or color correct. I want them to blend into the scene. Mats
don't work for me. I'm almost ready to cut the bases off and start
from scratch.

If you are not already try to texture the coating you put on the base, not the resin.

Get some Vallejo sand colors and modeling or artist paste. Try different tools to get the texture - sponge or stryo foam to touch and lift the surface. Once you get it like you want, then use a diluted black or brown wash which will provide some depth like the K & C bases.

I think you can get it close enough to where you'll like the result.

BLReed mate,
Patience my friend. Andy and Helen visit the Land of OZ in four weeks time and I am sure they will bring some Aussie surprises. My Dio has 48 Lighthorsemen and Desert Buildings (Beersheeba) on it patiencely waiting the arrival on some 22 Turks on order to do battle. I, like you, wait it hope of mounted medics w/stretcher, Ambulance Wagons, British and Turkish Artillery. Andy's work cannot be rushed and he has many other collectors to satisfy in other series. Once again patience and anything will come to he who waits.
Cheers from the Land of the Mighty Lighthorse, Howard

Dear Howard:

Wow, you have #48 of the splendid looking Australian Lighthorsemen! The very recent photos I have seen of the new K&C Turks good great as well. Ah, now what happened to the two 1876 K&C US Army 7th Cavalry troopers I sold to you last November 2009 on eBay? Do you have a diorama of them as well?

Best regards mate, Gary / "Iron Brigade"

Good lord, that is a lot of horsemen. Even my basic arithmetic tells me this is quite a monetary investment. My hat is off to you. I would love to see a picture of this dio. It must be impressive with 48 Lighthorsemen charging. -- Al

Guys,
I sent some very early photos to Brad to post for me of the Charge dio in its very early stages. On the left is the 4th LH Regt. (two blues, Victoria) and on the right is the repainted 12th LH Regt (blue/black, New South Wales) the two Regts of the 4th LH Brigade that charged the Turks at Beersheeba. The dio is constantly expanding with the K&C Desert Village buildings forming the township of Beersheeba and soon arrival of some Turkish defenders and Build-a-Rama trenches.
Cheers Howard

Here are Howard's photos. I don't think he has enough Lighthorse, do you :)

Hi Guys,

Wow! First we have our friend Sotnik’s fantastic “Cossack” displays… And today we have my old mate Howard’s Light Horse charge at Beersheba… Simply stunning… now that’s what I call a charge.

But I should warn you Howard I’ve got good news and bad news… First the good news… You and our other Aussie mates are going to be previewing the next Light Horse reinforcements in a few weeks time when Helen and yours truly head down to OZ to meet up with you all in Brisbane and Sydney.

Now, the bad news…. There’s some more “Johnny Turks” appearing on the scene as well!!!

No worries mate… I have it on good authority the Aussies won the day.

All the very best Howard from your old cobber,
Andy C.

P.S. Looking forward to quaffing a few ice cold tubes when we meet up.

Wow Howard,superb scene,nice work mate.

Rob

Howard,

Fantastic display of the Light Horse charge.

.....and I thought I had too many figures for the Light Brigade.

Thanks, Raymond.:)

Great display, i only watched the film last night for like the 30th time. Has anyone noticed the Turkish artillery pieces added to the main page of the kingandcountry.com website????

Very impressive indeed. I like the order of battle. Thanks for the photos. Now you need a couple Ambulance wagons in the rear. Fingers crossed.

Guys,
Many thanks for your kind words. Those photos that Brad kindly posted for me are over three months old and the dio has progressed in size since then.
I will post new photos when the Turks arrive in force to defend the trenches outside Beersheeba.
For those of you who are not a student of that period of Military History it maybe interesting for my Pommie and Kiwi mates to know that their forces were also involved in the three pronged attack on Beersheeba. The NZ Lighthorse to the east and two divisions of British Infantry to the west. That British Infantry included a Battalion each of the Black Watch and the Royal Scots Fusiliers. Interesting scenario to enlarge the dio further.
To my good mate Andy, I am counting the days until Brisbane and Simmo and I can sit down with you and enjoy a few cold ones.
Cheers Howard

Great display Howard.
I can see we will have to ensure good security for Andy's protoypes next month ! We do not want them going walkabout !!!
I think you and I need to get Simmo to teach us how to load images.
Regards
Brett
PS Hopefully you will have the Turks very soon !!!
