Yo Rob, lol think you are sniffing to much paint off K&C after this quote.

Reminded me of 'Aliens' quite a bit.

Cannot for the life of me see where you get that from. Aliens were real mean and nasty creatures hell bent on destroying the human race.

Avatars or what ever the race was called were peace loving people in harmony with their planet and animal life. Are you sure it was Avatar you watched:D;).
Bernard.

I saw Avatar in the theater in 3D. And thought the story was mediocre. I was really expecting a lot more to it. I have seen sci-fi movies with much smaller budgets that had better stories that make you "think" about the material being presented, like "Moon".
Also the aliens were such OBVIOUS stand ins for the American indian.
They wore loin cloths and feathers, used bow and arrows, wore warpaint when going into battle, and oh yeah...there were blue skins instead of red skins, that was a stretch.

But overall there was no NEW ground covered. In "Aliens" you had the idea of a life form that needed a living host to breed, and was something that had probably devoured unsuspecting worlds and entire civilizations. Remember in Alein, the "space jockey" that was found fossizled on the derilict ship?

Overall Avatar did not appeal to me as films that I regard as classic science fiction like, Blade Runner, Palnet of the Apes, The Matrix, War of the Worlds, etc.

I think this post is quite accurate in how I also felt after watching Avatar. It was a decent sci-fi show but not real original. It certainly does not warrant listing with the sci-fi classics mentioned. Like I said in an earlier post, Cameron has done better work, but the special effects were pretty special. -- Al

Well I thought all the 'lock and load' stuff and the crew in deep sleep for years sort of stuff reminded me of it.

I was really disappointed in this show...

I didn't get to see it in 3-D...

but I have a 63" high def Samsung...

just wasn't that impressed with the show...

I have a friend that is the director of Austin City Limits...

and he said this stuff they are doing is soooooooo advanced...

still...it just didn't do it for me.

Speaking of classic Sci-Fi, Alien and Aliens are due for Blu-ray release this year, as supposedly (fingers crossed) The Abyss. For that matter, so is the referenced great Last of the Mohicans. I am very much looking forward to all three.:D Now if we can just also have the Indiana Jones and original Star Wars trilogies I will be pretty happy.

Last Of the Mohicans in Blu-ray?YES!I loved the first 2 Alien films, they were classics.4-5 years from now when you see in the TV Guide one of the basic cable stations is playing Avatar it will have a 2 star rating.
