Aztec (2 Viewers)

Truth be told I’m more interested in the Spanish than the Aztecs so I will probably wait to see if John produces Cortes and company.

Without giving too much away, I asked John about some versions of Conquistadores and he said that’s there would be.

Got a shipping notification today for the AZ-04 and AZ05.
In the Treefrog Store the status for the sets was “pre-order only” until last night and today it is “retired”.
There must be quite a demand out there for this new line.
Good for John, and well deserved :wink2:

It might be ‘retired from stock’ but it’s not retired from production. Certainly not yet anyway.

love this figure...

I started making some palm trees today and bought a lot of aquarium plants for terrain and groundwork...

I have no space at all in my house to display it...

Mike,

A very nice figure, isn’t it.
Got my Jaguar Warrior last Friday and today I received the Warrior Priest and the Eagle Warrior.
Just unwrapped them and am looking at the group of three right now.
Love them :wink2:

Konrad...my other 2 are on order...I can't believe John is selling out so fast on these...

Thanks for the great idea! Aztec/Conquistadore jungle diorama would go great in my master bathroom.....something to contemplate.

Richard...

my master bathroom already has Snow Shoes in it...^&grin

seriously...
I have run out of room in my home to display figures...

last year I moved my Crusader/Saracen diorama...
which is 7 foot x 3 foot...
upstairs into a bedroom...
I got rid of the bed and dressers to make room......

I don't even get to enjoy it unless I go in that room...
I should really sell off one that I own now...
just to make room...
I have no business starting a new series...

but I can't resist this one...

I e-mailed JJD regarding ordering the AZ-03 model and they said it would be back in stock in June. I didn't inquire regarding the other two models, as I had already ordered them elsewhere, but it would make sense that it would be the same.

It would seem collectors will have to be a little patient. No bad thing. Other wonderful figures will come and go in the meantime I am sure. To that end the Aztecs may be one of those that got away for some. I am very philosophical re collecting and pick up what I like when I can. If I miss out it just means I can buy something else.

Hi Mike

Like the new Aztec line but not enough to start collecting them thankfully for my wallet !
Anyway what I wanted to say was if you run out plants you've already got for your Aztec display and need more you might want to have a look at the model Railway section on ebay as that's where I get my Jungle plants from. The fern type plants in my newest jungle scene are actually the tops of 8" high plastic palm trees (Smaller ones give a small spread)

How do these figures compare to Morgan Miniatures?

Steve...

I appreciate the idea...
sounds like a good one...

I went to Pet Smart and Wal Mart...
and bought a lot of the cheap plastic overly glossy plants and ferns...
I gave them a good coat of matte basil green and matte moss green...
they look 100% more realistic without that glossy plastic sheen...
you can buy these squares of 16 small shrubs suitable for a jungle for $1.99...
I will check Ebay...
if you use a specific seller...
please post his Ebay name...

I have collected Morgan Miniatures Aztecs and Conquistadores for many years. I now have the first three JJD Aztecs and they blend very well with Morgan Miniatures. JJD sculpting, in my opinion, is more detailed and animated but nonetheless they work well together.
I am anxious to see JJD Conquistadores and compare them as well.

That's great to know. I have some of the Morgan Miniatures Conquistadors and would have continued collecting but getting them here in Australia became too expensive and problematic. These JJD figures may be what it takes to get me collecting figures again. BTW, also heard that Kronprinz is looking at developing a Conquistador series too.

Hi Mike

I've not used just one seller.
These are the ones that I've used, though there are many similar sellers who price usually similar.
As I'm in UK it's from ebay uk, but as their an international seller, I expect they do sales in US and priced in US Dollars.

I'm not sure that the Aztecs inhabited much of a jungle terrain. Their power base was in the Valley of Mexico which is at least 7000 ft. elevation, more of a high desert than jungle. Just a thought before you get too invested in acquiring a lot of jungle scenic materials.

That’s correct. You’re probably thinking of the Mayans.
