Got the boxed set out last week and I am watching it again for Lord knows how many times.
Da-- that was a great series.
For all you Brits out there, how hard is it to loose your accent, as the guy who plays Winters did, as he is a Brit?
Guess when this is over I,ll get out the Pacific, next.

Accent? What accent?
Do you mean how hard is it to adopt an accent? :wink2:
Yes, Damian Lewis - very dry guy and fun to watch.
Now you've got me reaching for the BoB box set (again!)

Yes, a compelling, moving production and probably my favorite TV series ever. I don't know how many times I have seen an unknown actor in something and thought, "Hey, that guy was in Band of Brothers!"

What a coincidence! I broke out my box set over the weekend and started watching it, too. I just watched "The Last Patrol" last night. It is a great series, dare we say, iconic? Well, perhaps taken together with "Saving Private Ryan". They set a new standard for the way a war movie is filmed and looks, in much the same way that Ken Burns set a new standard for documentary production with "The Civil War".

Prost!

Great show i bought the box set on Blu-ray,when it first came out my Dad and i use to watch it together.
Now he has passed when i watch it,it brings back great memories watching a great show with a great man.

Wonderful tv series, quite possibly the best War series ever. The realism that Saving Private Ryan ushered in is repeated throughout, love it.

Would love to see them do a modern documentary add-on to what the next gen did in Iraq.

Easily the greatest unit I was ever in. The motivation and professionalism in that unit was second to none.

Great series and, never tire of seeing it. I wonder where they will venture for a next series??

Was Tom Hanks involved in producing "The Pacific", too, or did he just narrate it? I want to add that to my library, too, it struck me as being in the same style as "Saving Private Ryan" and "Band of Brothers".

That's what I meant when I said that Spielberg/Hanks set the style for war movies that followed, like Burns and "The Civil War". A couple of years after TCW aired, two documentary series on the Revolutionary War came out, and they borrowed heavily from Burns' style.

Prost!

I am not too sure how much of a role he played in the pacific I thought it was a similar type of role as he played in BOB. I did not think too much of it the Pacific first time I watched it. I think my expectations were set by BOB but, I have watched it a few times now and, each time it gets better. I think it clearly shows how hard of a campaign the PTO was.

Well worth getting as it fits well with the two you mentioned

CC,
Have you tried out Generation Kill (another HBO release)?
It only got a luke warm response on this forum when it came out, but I loved it and must have watched it over a dozen or more times.

"Band of Brothers" is a favourite of mine. I enjoy all 10 episodes.

If you have to pick one, which would be the best Episode for you?

My choice is Episode 7.

Raymond:)

Raymond...

Yeah mate, it was God Awful. {sm2} Not a fan at all I'm afraid. Personally, I felt there was an angle being worked on that show.

@Guy- my favortie episode of BoB was the one where Winters charges over the dyke and starts blasting on all those Germans. Not so much forr that scene but the flashbacks of how that haunted him along with the end of that episode where he slips into his bath. Somtimes the best things in life are the smallest.

My other favorite was when Speirs went charging through that German 88 position- during the Bulge.

Me too, Chris. Speirs' charge is one of those incidents that you read about, where something happens in the middle of a battle, and everyone who sees it just stops dead, because it's so unbelievable. The Krauts just dropped their jaws.

There was a Zero pilot at Midway who flew upside down down one of the runways during the attack, and all the men manning guns stopped and watched him--for a second or two. Once the initial shock/disbelief of seeing it wore off, they all opened up and blasted him.

Prost!

I'm rather fond of the episode, The Last Patrol. Don't know what number it is but it is late in the series. Just liked everything about it. The burnout displayed by the soldiers, the dynamic of the returning wounded soldier who was perceived as not having tried his best to get back to the unit, and especially the interplay with the officers. The new officer who wanted to see action, the CO who wanted more blood, and Winters and his officers who wanted to shield their men from more harm than they thought was neccesary so late in the war. Just a really well written and executed episode. -- Al

This youtube clip shows part of Episode 7 when E Coy attacks the Belgian town of Foy. It includes Lt. Spier's incredible run thorough the German defences to link up with I Coy.

It was 1st Sgt. Carwood Lipton's day for holding E Coy together while Lt. Dike vacillated. Lipton received a battlefield commission shortly after the Foy action. Spiers relieved Dike of command of E Coy as ordered by Capt. Dick Winters, Bn CO 2/506.

The Last Patrol is Episode 8 and really good too.

Raymond:)

One of my favorite scenes was where they were reconing a house and one of the guys got shot in the neck. After the action, Harry was so distressed, he couldn't light his cigarette. I thought that was great realism.
