Hi everyone... I have been very quite lately and have taken a break from collecting model soldiers... however when I am not collecting model soldiers my wife and I collect just about anything else... including working model Steam Engines, Huntley & Palmer's Biscuit Tins, Vintage Cameras, Antique Binoculars, Carbide and Keorsene Lanterns and a whole lot more... {sm3} it's a therapy thing... {sm2}

Cheers
Marc

Love the steam engines Marc, that's one I have liked for a long time myself. I think the traction engine in a an old film 'Iron Maiden' was the catalyst. My son collects old cameras. So you are not alone. Having other collections gives a sort of respite to being consumed by one and getting stale. I collect WW11 German photo books and a broad selection of DVD's. Thanks for sharing. Robin.

Who would have thought that there would be so much dough in biscuit tins.

Marc,
Something different.
Not familiar with Huntley and Palmer so why them over other biscuit makers ?
Brett

Hi Brett... forgive me for not dropping by... Martin has kept me busy since the dinner book and menu... Huntley & Palmer's make some of the most collected biscuit tins in the world due to their unique designs... There have been others that make unusual biscuit tins as well but the H&P's rage are by far the very best and are a great investment... :)

All the Best

Very cool mate, what scale are those steam engines? I can see a dio coming on using them.....:wink2:

Hi Robin... I must confess and it is true... they do NOT make toys like they did in the past... Imagine trying to purchase a steam engine for a child today... heavy metal, all the brass and steel... what's that you have to light fire to get the water hot... with a real flame... oh no my goodness... go and play with your xbox... ^&grin They really are magnificent working miniature feats of engineering and are a great investment. Vintage cameras are also a great collectable... I specialise in "Red Bellows" KODAK folding cameras although I do seem to pick up other bits and pieces. Again I think it has a lot to do with the actual mechanics and engineering of the old cameras... real wood and leather, shiny steel... hhmmm shiny steel.... ^&grin

Its therapy Tom... ^&grin We are currently planning a "PICKING" trip down through NSW, VIC and SA before heading back up to Brisbane... We hire a camper with a few mod-cons and can pick up "STUFF" along the way. Get to see some countryside, spend some loot and have some fun as we go...:cool:

Hi ya cobber... I seem to recall a bridge dio not so long ago that looked like your handy work... :salute:: The steam engines are reasonably big... that said there are those who build entire workshops (to scale) all powered by their steam plant... I'm not there yet but I'm thinking about it on a daily basis... It really is a lot of fun to get one out, fire up the boiler and watch the whole thing come to life... ^&grin

Hello Again...

For some strange reason I also have an appreciation for old "Block & Tackles" and Pulley's and Fire Extinguishers... {sm3} and also vintage luggage like old trunks and suit cases... {sm2}

I know... I'm currently seeing a doctor once every 2 weeks and he is not helping one bit... (ahhhh Marty, that was so funny).... ^&grin

Cheers

Hey Marc,

That is some neat stuff. I mean collect what you want. I posted this before, but I read once there is actually a group of people who collect different kinds of lint. Yes, lint. Hey man, whatever. At least your collection can be used as displays, furniture or decorations. Lint on the other hand...I don't know about that brother. Imagine going to someone's house and there is this glass picture frame that has all these different types of lint in it. You would be like...allright...what time does this party end?

So, anyway brother those are some pretty cool pieces...kinda of nautical in nature. Keep collecting. Have you ever delved into those glass Japanese boyues? Those are soooooo cool looking. I had one once, but it broke in shipment when I was returning from overseas. Those are really neat and they come in all sizes.

Thanks John... The Japanese "GLASS" fishing floats are extremely popular here in Australia with the large ones fetching anywhere from $50 to $150 depending on how they come (with or without rope netting) you can also get smaller ones that go for anything up to $50 each... the first thing "JACK" wanted when he came to visit was to see a steam engine run... it's a great party trick :)

cheers
Marc
