This battle was one in a series known as the seven days; Robert E Lee had recently taken over as the commander of the Army of Northern Virginia. The battle began around 2:30PM..................

A.P.Hill's division was the first to arrive on front of the Union defenses and a series of fruitless assaults over the next two hours were repulsed by US regulars from Syke's division, supported by the 5th NY Zouaves. Ewell's division, led by the Louisiana Tigers, attacked next on A.P. Hills left flank, but they too were repulsed as Union troops, led by regiments from MA and from NY, specifically the famed Irish Brigade, stood they ground.

As the battle continued at a stalemate, Longstreet launched a grand assault, close to 32,000 men, the largest Confederate assault of the war. Led by Hood, the attack began to break the Union line, a hole was punched in the middle of the Union defenses and all along the front, the Union line began to break.............

Fresh Union troops came onto the field and stemmed the tide, darkness fell on the battlefield and fighting drew to a close...................

Thanks Mike, glad you like it, thanks for the history regarding your family, always an interesting subject............

Another great panorama George. I think I see T Jackson leading his troops. Chris

Thanks Chris, there are a few issues with this one. It was much more heavily wooded than I depicted and also, the 5th NY was further up towards the Union right flank. Also, there was no redoubt, just a line of breastworks, but I though the redoubt looked good in the scene, so I went for it.

If you study the earthworks on the right of the redoubt, you'll see Hood climbing over the works about to draw his sword...............

Great scope, George. Really like the depiction of the massive assault and especially like the detail of Hood leading his Texas boys over the earthworks. The massive number of figures always impresses. -- Al

Thanks Al, glad you like it; it's pretty cool even in 20mm these companies do personality figures.

Poor Hood, lost an arm and a leg, had to be strapped to the saddle towards the end of the war..............

Wow - I love the size of those regiments. Fantastic work. Great photos too - thanks!

Thanks for the comments Walt, I appreciate it very much, glad you like this one, it was a lot of fun to set up.........

And again George goes to the head of the class with an A+ for this assignment.
The shear scope of the planning and hours of setup makes me tired just trying to imagine it .... time to go find the hammock and a Sam Adams ... Zzzzzzzzz

But yet another wonderful display and a well tied in narrative to go along.

Thanks for the comments Larry; I'm just trying to stay in practice regarding setting up toy soldiers, plus I don't get enough of it in the Spring and the Fall at the shows.................:wink2:

That's work; this is fun. But I get paid for the work part, not the fun part....................a little of both is always a good thing.............
