I went and saw the movie yesterday, it's still on at a few theaters, but running into the last week, I think.
I was most impressed with all of the equipment, uniforms and the base at Nui Dat.
What really brought back my time in the Army, as the fire support base, and the 'hot and sweaty gunners send in round after round of 105mm HE into the rubber plantation to support the infantry on the ground. All it needed was the smell of the smoke !!!! Seeing the exploding rounds and their destruction was frightening, but clearly showed the effectiveness of and artillery barrage.
The aerial shots of the guns firing, the APCs crossing the fields and the choppers were very realistic. On a technical point, the only thing I could note was some of the fire orders, and the gun line responses, but only a gunner, who has served on guns, command post and OP would pick that.
I was a great movie showing a small snapshot of time, no political overtones, showing what happened 50 years ago.
