I wanted to start a discussion since dispatches are coming soon ! This is not a prediction of this month's dispatches as i really have no idea what Andy has in the pipeline as he has mentioned that there was going to be alot of AFV surprises ?! I wanted to state that i like what K&C is doing, that is , revisiting the early WW2 period & iconic german equipment such as the sdkfz222 & hanomag...
That being said...I know everyone has their theme , likes & wants...But just as i look @ my collection & others , it is glaring & obvious that from 1939 to 1942 the high water mark of Axis expansion alot of AFV's are ignored...I get the whole wanting Tiger's & Panther's thing...!
But reading & studying early battles such as the invasion of Poland , France & Russia...The German Army relied mostly on light tanks...particularly the incorporation of Czech made tanks which were redesignated as pz 35t & pz 38t...These tanks fought in Poland , France & Russia up until 1942 until the 38t was used to create the Marder III , Hetzer & Flakpanzer 38t...These tanks were used by Romania , Bulgaria & Hungary as well to invade Russia...As important as these tanks were to the early success of the German advances...I have not seen one made by anyone !?
I collect toy soldiers & AFV's in an attempt to capture moments in time...When K&C started FOB i jumped all over the French Char B1 thinking , it was a miracle to see one ! Such an iconic French tank symbolzing French armor in 1940...
I know K&C has produced a pz 1 & pz 2...But in regards to a three year period of war , it IMHO has been glossed over...If in Dispatches for Feb. Andy releases info on a 35t or 38t , i will be placing my pre-order...I welcome any thoughts or comments !

I will attach a pic of a 35t i built...

Interesting thread.

I thought about this when K&C first produced the Pz. 1 under the LAH series (LAH 068). I know many collectors who incorporated it into early war dioramas. There are so many early war pieces that could be produced, the ones you mentioned and beyond. I am, as always, looking forward to what K&C produces next in this line of re-visited early war Germans etc.

Totally agree. Still missing from the K&C Fields of Battle range are the 35t, 38t, and the French Suoma tank. I would love to add them to my early war collection and would be a certain purchase.

I'd prefer the 38t vs. 35, has more use in '42. Yes I'd like to see the 38t or 1942 Marder...but there hasn't even been a grey III yet so it's a bit strange to get these other things before that

Blowtorch ,

yes , the Pz 38t did last abit longer & was subsequently used to make other AFV's as i mentioned earlier...The Pz 35t began to break down & part replacement was a problem , not to mention it's usefulness on the battlefield was beginning to expire ! However to me they both go hand in hand , as two tanks that if not acquired by the German's would not have been able to either start the war or be as successful in it's early days...

PA ,

The Pz 1 ( LAH ) seems more suited to me as a parade vehicle if using the tank commander...There are pictures of these Pz 1's on parade/rally !
Here's to hoping for more early war german AFV's...

Terry ,

Yes , i would also like to see a French Suoma tank...Got the French Char B1 , would fit in nice next to it...
Maybe 2013 will be good to us early war guy's ?!

Joe:

I agree with you, the commander does make LAH68 look more parade-ish. Again, I am also right there with you on more early war German AFV's, too many too list, but I want them all!!!!!

There is alot of GREY missing........................^&grin

Not when I look in the mirror.{sm4}{sm4}{sm4} concur though the early years are not well catered for, guessing because the more imposing equipment came later in the war and are more likely to make a bigger splash with collectors. Cheers, Robin.

Good points Joe,

Love the model by the way, nicely done.

I agree that Andy and his team @ K&C are doing some excellent things in the industry. I can't help but wonder when one of the main manufacturers is going to devote some coverage to the campaign that kicked off the big show. I know it was a small bit in the big picture, but the Polish Campaign of 1939 was as masterful from a military perspective as it was brief. I've gotta think that there is more than enough material here to do a convincing figure & vehicle range. 35-38t, PKWI, PKWII, PKWIII and IV, maybe a Stuka, some Polish Infantry, Cavalry and anti-tank gunners to go along with some new German landsers. Heinz Guderian played a pretty big role in this campaign with his wide sweep around the Polish flank. The events he describes in his memoirs would make for an interesting depiction in miniature. Just saying that its feasible and I think K@C has the following now that people would go for it even if it isn't their main area of interest. It would be an excellent opportunity to highlight the pride and professionalism of the Wehrmacht before Nazi and SS influences started to corrode the reputation of the German military. A character figure of Gerd von Runstedt would epitomize the essence of the disciplined Prussian officer corps.

Swalterh,

Yes , the Polish Campaign was a masterful military manuever...Would love to see some Polish troops , Cavalry & light Polish armor...Of course to go along with that a 35t & 38t would be a great early war fill in for K&C's FOB line !
I believe there would be great interest in such a line...Alot of people love to build diorama's & doing anything early war period is extremely difficult IMO !

Joe

I agree a 35T or 38T would be a worthy vehicle worth producing as they were widely used during the early stages of the war.

PA44 ,

It just seems like such a glaring missing set of AFV's to me...IMO without the seizure of Czechoslovakia & these two AFV's & their manufactoring sites , i have read that it may not have been possible for Hitler to go to war / that being said if he had without these AFV's the outcome of Poland & France would have been different...
Taking that historical content to mind...While being a collector of WW2 & reading about the war 1939 thru 1942 , it seems extremely odd that these AFV's have never been produced by anybody ?! Like i said earlier in my post i get everybody wanting Tiger's & Panther's released every month...that's why i wanted to see what everybody else thought about filling out their own early WW2 collections...

I recall a Tamiya diorama in their catalog in the 70s. It showed the Polish Calvary charging onto a Panzer II. It was titled "Flesh versus Steel". I am not sure about its historical accuracy. But, certainly if we can recreate a scene of such a charge against a 35t or 37t, it would be interesting. It was the demarcation point between WW1 strategy and tactics versus the Blitzkreig early steel Panzers and of course their employ of the "borrowed" Skodas in the early war effort. It was nice as it reflects the change in the definition of the traditional versus those that embrace technology in what is termed as Calvary.
