Battle of Poland/France/Russia 35t & 38t (2 Viewers)

good thread would also like to see some more early war Panzers including panzer crews in the panzer beret. Most of what has been mentioned are worth doing and, many are small enough to be cost effective for a manufacturer.

Not so keen on polish troops but, I see why they are needed surprised that these have not been done in the FOB range yet.

Hopefully, we will not see polish cavalry charging German armour or where will it end?? Russian tanks ramming German AFV's on mass at Kursk. Blowtorch is right lets stick with reality rather than the fictions of the war!!!

Early Russian tanks and infantry to counter the Germans during Operation Barbarossa.

Thanks , Mitch...

This topic is something i have really been thinking about...I am always hunting for early war stuff , which is why i was building 1/35 models of the 35t & early war grey as you know...I was able to pick up a Polish Cavalry from Hachette last year , also got a dismounted Polish lancer from DelPrado...
I believe I read something that Polish cavalry were attacking german infantry & got caught in the open by german armoured cars . i don't know if this is where the myth stems from ?

The charge on the German infantry is true and so is the counter-attack by the German AFVS. The myth stems from German propaganda. German tanks did arrive later on the scene and there were dead Polish soldiers and horses around. So, it was conveniently used to expound on the strength of the Garman armor.

Wrt the early vehicles, most of the Wehrmacht tanks and AFVs will have white crosses painted on them. I read in the recent issue of After The Battle magazine that the Polish soldiers were using the white crosses to take aim. It was from this early part of the war experience that the Germans later painted the crosses with a black center. This is confirmed to be true if you look at most of the early war photos.

So, I think most of the King n Country vehicles are rarely painted with the white crosses. Just a few from FOB and LAH so far. So, this discussion does bring possibilities of early and smaller gray tanks and AFVs with different insignia, black beret tank crews, etc...

Here's some reading on it, but to add to the misunderstanding, a Polish director for some reason used this charge idea in a movie in 1959, and we all know that once you make a movie, you've just shaped a billion minds for generations to come

But if you want cavalry charging MG34s & howitzers, the Russians can help you out with that!

If someone is going to seriously consider covering the 1939 campaing I still think the Polish horsemen should be reprented. Maybe not charging a tank per-se but the cavalry arm was such an integral part of Polish doctrine I can't see how they could be left out completely.

I think late war German armour (especially the big cats) have received a lot of attention over the years. I know my collection has a hole in it and that is early war German armour like many of the types mentioned on this thread. Hopefully we'll see some more releases soon. ^&cool

I love Tiger's & Panther's just like the next guy , however balance in my WW2 collection is sorely lacking ! A 35t ,38t or some early german AFV's with a solid white cross would be quite nice to see !

RE: Polish cavalry charging German armor.

I do not desire to create an arguement over this; rather just offer food for thought and with one example and leave it at that.

When the Scharnhorst, Prinz Eugen and escorts made their way up the English Channel during Operation Cerberus, they were attacked by Fleet Air Arm Fairey Swordfish armed with torpedos. In the hail of fire sent their way they were all shot down quickly without any success in their attack. Suicidal? I am sure some of the Swordfish crew knew or thought it was. The Germans probably thought so too, but many of them regarded the action as very courageous never the less.

If the Polish incident never happened or was inaccurately recorded that is one thing, but men fired with courage have attempted things of equal or greater seeming futility.

Another nicely done panzer model.

:)

Thanks , Shane...

I used to build quite a few 1/35 AFV's...Now when i have time , i mostly repaint or paint toy soldiers or AFV's...Check out the kits i have built on my profile page under albums than hit more...

RPZ ,

As far as i know , it was for propaganda purpose that the Polish Cavalry charging German AFV's myth was perpetrated...The Poles had their own AFV's albeit in limited numbers & not on par with the german army , they were quite aware of how deadly they could be & that charging them would not bring a positive result...In this thread member( Blowtorch ) provided some links to the Polish cavalry & the myth of the charge...
I agree with your statement at the end of your post...

Nice video. Thanks.

Now we just need Andy to package these early war tanks into smaller boxes. I entered my king n country treasure den and find that space is going to be a real issue. Also, soon the WAF ( wife acceptance factor ) kicks in and then we get civil war... Lol.

Thanks , Chris...

Just think that these two Czech tanks are really cool...They work so well for Poland , France & early Russia...I did find another video just to be fair of the Pzkpf 35t...It is more a computer generated video but shows the beauty of the tank...enjoy !
