As the anticipation of what new products will be released in Chicago builds, there is another anticipation sitting quietly in the wings.

Nick and I said on another thread, that we will not be able to attend the Chicago show this year, but will we will be there..... Which was met with some sarcasm and humor from our old buddy George.

Where are we going with this ? .......Many of the top Diorama builders will be doing displays for various manufacturers at this years show....and YES, we will be doing two for Figarti's new products. They are done. I am looking at them right now.

Who will be the Shock and Awe Diorama builders of this years show?.................................. You decide when you get there.

There is a friendly competition among those of us who create Battle Scenes, and everyone gets better by the day. There are also many creative styles. So I doubt that there will be a definitive favorite......

But you know what to expect form us "Down and Dirty". I guarantee you will smell the battle. Frankly these scenes move me in a way, unlike any other work we have ever done. I hope everyone enjoys them.....And the Figarti products that are on them !.. Alex

I'm sure they will be great as will many other dioramas. You guys that do this just keep getting better and better.

It has gotten quite remarkable. We love the subtle competition, and yet there is a camaraderie between all of the Battle Artists. The subtle competition has driven all of us to be better. I wonder where it will end.

Back in the day Carlos started the Diorama thread .....I had built 1/35th scale scenes prior...and I didn't think the Toy Soldiers had enough detail at the time. So I started my torrid "Get Real" campaign....WOW what fights that caused....... I upped the bar with more realistic scenes and it stayed that way for a while...Then all of a sudden it really caught on...I met Nick on the Forum....He lived only a few miles away....and now tremendous talent emerged from everywhere....There was some decent work out there at the time....... But I think we really brought attention to Ultra Realism, and gave the movement a hard swift kick in the butt....That is my story and I am sticking to it :)...Alex

Let me guess; one of the dioramas is a winter scene to showcase their new Jagdpanzer IV L70tank, correct?

nope !!!!.....You know we are not predictable..... the scenes do have some very unique twists though...We actually started building the scenes before we knew what was going on them. We think everything will blend perfectly. Alex

You are one sly guy Alex, you certainly aren't predictable. Must be tough though to build a diorama to showcase a product if you don't know what the product will actually be, you know, the whole get things right and the realism approach that you and Nick take, well Nick anyway as he is the mad scientist behind the curtain doing all the building of the dioramas.

Glad things worked out so well for him, he's a great guy and he puts a lot of thought and hard work into his dioramas................

That is not entirely true. I actually built all of the scenes, and Nick builds the specific buildings in my overall scene. I did most, if not all of the layouts. Now Nick is helping with the scenes also, and I advise and share in some building construction.

We eventually want to intertwine everything, the result seems to be better. I still do the photography, but I would like Nick to try it also. Everything we collaborate on seems to turn out better.

We could even do better than we are doing, but we have to draw the line somewhere, because we have so many detailed projects to do. Especially with our Mini-Series about to debut. Well we better not discuss this any more because we will get thrown off this thread.........This is getting to be a tough business, for Manufacturers and Dealers, in this economy. So where as we played before, there is an element of seriousness to how a product is displayed, it could possibly lead to better sales. We love Figarti products, and we would not represent anyone we did not have faith in. Not to say that other Manufacturers are not also putting out excellent products........But having roots in the 1/35th scale modeling world, Figarti vehicles intrigue me the most ! Alex

Ok, I guess I stand corrected, turns you that you in fact are making the layouts now along with Nick, that certainly is a new development.

Here I am all along thinking Nick is the man behind all the scenes and now it turns out he is only partly responsible, he just does the buildings, while you do the scene, the layout and the picture taking.

I guess two heads really are better than one.

So are you able to achieve a seamless transition now on your dioramas with you doing the scene and Nick doing the buildings, that must be tough to do. It would be like one figure painter doing the top half of a figure and another doing the bottom half as both have different styles.

Really looking forward to seeing this diorama now in Chicago, where you did the scene and the layout and Nick did the buildings.

Just think now how everyone attending the show can see Gordons work at the K & C room, Ken's work in his room and in the Britians displays and now your work in the Figarti room, too bad Rod didn't do another spectacular diorama for First Legion, then we'd have the top four creative minds in the diorama world all under one roof, think of that all of you show attendees, what a treat that is.

Also not sure by what you mean regarding a miniseries; you are making a film like Band of Brothers or The Pacific?

Not sure what a miniseries is and why talking about it would get you thrown off the forum or this thread, is it something you are doing on your own and not teaming up with Figarti on?

Also, not sure what you mean by you could do better, but you have to draw the line somewhere. Not sure what that means; you could make better dioramas but you can't because you don't want to cross a certain line? Do you mean using live rounds and having real smoke and real explosions, boy, you are one creative guy Alex, you're really taking this to a whole other level since you took a more active role in this.

Boy Alex you've been one busy guy since you retired, rolling up your sleeves and diving right into the world of toy soldiers, you certainly know how to keep it real, that is for sure.........

MINI (As in small soldiers) is the key word in that phrase......I guess we are supposed to talk about product in this thread not our work,.....Figarti and Hobby Bunker will be our Co-Producers....We hope to launch in November. We will be armed to the teeth, with their support, and with limited assistance from Frontline, Collectors Showcase and Britains also. Conte was in then out, K&C, Thomas Gunn, Honour Bound and First Legion wanted no part of us. So I guess we are not as popular as we think :(;). But with Hobby Bunkers help and our own collection, we will have access to those figures also. It is going to be a huge production. Rick is so cool, even with all of these other figures being used next to his, he still gave us tremendous support. That is confidence.

We feel as though we could do even more realistic stuff, but we don't have the time. with all of the work we have to do. That is what I meant when I said we have to draw the line somewhere (We already have very realistis explosions, invented by Nick and I). But the MINI-Series, and the Figarti Dios for Chicago, should raise the bar a bit ( You can only hope so when it comes to an art form). For the most part we will concentrate on the MINI-Series and not do anything else while it is running. We will release official info shortly.

I am surprised you thought Nick did everything. I was doing scenes on this Forum before I even knew Nick. When I met him I would plan he scene, tell him what buildings and accessories I needed, and put it together. Now we are both getting our hands in everything. Nick still mostly does the buildings though. Nick calls us Peanut Butter and Jelly. It is uncanny how much we think alike, yet we do come up with different ideas for the same project, which works out very well. Hope this cleared it up for you.

I never thought you took such a great interest in BSP !....We are flattered that one of the biggest dealers, and a person that has great knowledge of this business, recognizes our work.....I named this thread Battle of the Battle Scenes, because we are aware of all of the talent that will be in Chicago......I thought Rod was going to have a scene there...we love his stuff.....Thanks for your questions !....Alex

So if I am reading this right, The Hobby Bunker is going to provide figures to you from manufacturers that don't want you to make dioramas for them, or put another way, you will be using non sponsor products in your miniseries, nice of Rick to give you his blessing on this one.

Leave it to The Hobby Bunker to step in and take command of the situation, that's Matt for you, always thinking, offering to let you use figures from companies that you do not have access to in order to assist you pull of this ground breaking miniseries you and Nick are creating, The Hobby Bunker to the rescue, thus assuring this brand new never seen in the toy soldier world concept of yours gets done, that's what I call real teamwork, everyone pitching in to achieve the goal.

I guess Matt also has the same vision you do or else he wouldn't be stepping up to the plate and doing this for you, you two guys are singing from the same songsheet, two powers of the toy soldier world joining forces to bring this miniseries to the collectors, truly a force to be reconed with in the hobby.

Understood about you creating scenes before you met Nick; remember Alex, you're the guy who coined the phrase "Get real" or "keeping it real" or "I want it real"; actually, I really don't remember now the actual phrase, all I remember is according to how you saw it, folks were opposed to your concepts and ideas and it was you and only you who brought this new thinking to the toy soldier world of creating realistic dioramas, even though actually Carlos started the "diorama" thread, you just kind of jumped in there after the fact with your "keep it real" slogan.

I am sure folks are on the edge of their seats waiting to see this miniseries of yours, November is a long way off to keep them waiting, to bad you guys weren't coming to Chicago, you could get a table and do a small "sneak peak" of your miniseries, sort of a "trailer" if you will to wet their whistles, a real shame you guys won't be there, even though you actually will be there with your diorama on display with Figarti.

I know with your hectic schedule to get this off the ground by November that would probably not work, not enough hours in the day, but going forward, maybe you should consider coming to Chicago so folks can meet the two guys behind battlescenes, the peanut butter and jelly of the toy soldier world.................
Anyway,

With the Forum Rules and Regs I fear this thread may get shut down, because it is amounting to a private conversation between George and I.

The bottom line is this:

BSP is doing 2 highly detailed Dioramas for Figarti, which will display their new products at Chicago. We hope you enjoy them.

BSP is doing a Mini (Diorama) Series, which will debit around November. The series is being Sponsored by Figarti and Hobby Bunker. With limited assistance from Frontline Figures, The Collectors Showcase and Britains.

BSP will also have a table at the Hackensack New Jersey Show.

We dont know who started dioramas with Toy Soldiers, but we know we fought hard to up the realism level.

What is limited assistance?? Full assistance must mean giving you access to stock but, the other??? Don't think the thread will be closed as its plodding along

Frontline and Britains are not currently producing a large quantity of WWII, therefore there assistance is limited.

And Collectors Showcase is providing limited contrubutions..

We are just hurting for Honour Bound, as they were not interested, and Hobby Bunker does not carry them.

But we are armed to the teeth, with Hobby Bunker filling in the rest of the gaps. Alex

Thank you for the sneak peek, Alex! The damaged building looks incredible....will this be a production piece that you will be selling, or is it solely a dio made for the big show only?

In any case, I hope you have a great time in Chicago. I cannot attend, but I will be glued to my computer for any updates and photos of the annual creativity explosion that is OTSN!:)

Thanks Joe....We will not be attending Chicago either....We like to remain behind the scenes......work hard on our projects....and entertain the troops at home.

We will make custom Buildings and accessories..... You can check our Web Site for info......And we also sell off some of the buildings and accessories, that were used on our various scenes, to make room in our Headquarters........We don't like to mention it much on the Forum, because it is not fair to Shannon and Peter who provide this Forum, to just come on here to sell stuff.

Most of our Sponsors products are sold by Treefrog, so if our scenes generate interest in a particular product, then Treefrog would benefit, and that is OK.

You will see everything when we start ramping things up in a few months. There is more info on the Battle Scene Productions thread, in the Diorama Section of this Forum.
