With all the different Toy Soldier manufacturers I’m surprised we don’t have a dedicated company designing buildings along the lines of what were produced by Conte several years ago. These foam buildings which are lightweight and very durable are sorely needed. Factory buildings, half destroyed buildings for WW1 and WW2. Plus affordable so one can get several pieces to produce a great diorama.

agreed...
I think it's a market that's neglected more than it should be...
there are a lot of nice structures by several manufacturers...
some really awesome work...
but I would love to see some new buildings regularly...

I like the timeless European style...
brick...wood...mortar...maybe damaged...crumbling brick...weathered doors/windows...etc...
the kind of buildings that still exists to this day...
but could actually be a 200-300 years old...
run down farm houses...decaying brick homes...fences...gates...

I think collectors are more conscious about displaying their figures than they were 10 years ago...

to add a building...a tree...a rock formation...some shrubs...
anything along side my figures on the shelf...
makes me enjoy looking at my collections more and not minding as much...
the money I have spent on them...

the HO/Railriad market really exploits this...
literally 100's of buildings can be found in a search...

I would like to see more buildings...trees...architectural formations...

I wish some manufacturers would do the same for 54-60mm...

Hobby Bunker has a bunch. Also, wasn't Hudson & Allen this?

But yes, I agree. I would like to see more.

I agree. I love battlefield buildings. But after years of searching and buying all I can you reach the conclusion that there simply arent enough made or a big enough market for manufacturers to make them.

so - get them custom made for you. Plenty of guys who can do that. I use Carlo in Italy and David Marshall in UK. price is good and they will make whatever building you like to fit your diorama. Much better to have it made as a perfect fit than trying to find something off the shelf.

good luck.

Cheers,

Stefan

something else I thought about - how about a catalogue of all building everyone has which were made by manufacturers and put them all here with photos ?

so at least everyone can see what was/is made and you might be able to find online somewhere ? If any interest I can start when back from hols in Jan.

If you go on EBay take a look at seller 734toddb. He carries several great foam bunkers great for WW1 or WW2. He has a bunker system that’s almost 6ft in length. Perfect sized for K&C figures. A really beautiful piece. And the best part it’s $165.00. Totally affordable. Made of the same materials as Hudson & Allen/Conte buildings. This is what we need more of. In building form.

These are really great pieces at a very affordable price. They look very realistic. Hopefully we can get some more pieces. Love to see some buildings produced. Maybe squeeze out a similar piece like the Conte church.

Can you provide some more info on the builder from Italy? Thanks.

Hi All,
I have attentively read all the postings to the thread and I also agree that more buildings that can span more than one period ( in case of Europe and the Middle East ) would be fantastic.
To add to the list there is another supplier that you have not mentioned, JG Miniatures in England, he has superb options ( though in the past there were more...guess now the focus is Roman, Napoleonics and European Therater of wars....).
I personally prefer the material that he and K&C uses and Britains used ( not sure if Briains under Ken will totally migrate to foam? ) These mentioned manufacturers use a more solid plaster type of material....versus the more advocated rigid foam that you have all mentioned...But again that is a question of preference.

As for Carlo and his offerings, talk to Poppo here on the thread.....he is Carlo.

Cheers

There was a period of time where I couldn't assemble/paint buildings and structures fast enough, I used to sell raftloads of kits I'd build and paint as well as custom painted scenery from Hobby Bunker, TSSD, CTS, Formtech and others.

The bottom fell out of the market for me about five years ago; numerous customers told me space had become an issue, so they stopped buying buildings and other scenic items from me, that was around the time I dropped BAR due to lack of sales.

I used to have numerous custom painted items for sale at the shows that were parts of my displays, I cut way back on them again due to lack of sales.

I have noticed in the past year or so a bump in sales of painted buildings and scenery for me at shows and on Ebay, so maybe we've got a new batch of collectors interested in these sorts of items.

I came into a number of Conte buildings back in July and they were basically all gone by the time Chicago rolled around, the remaining ones sold there.

The one to talk to on this is Matt at HB as he produces the widest range of buildings and scenery, he'd have a better handle on what does and does not sell/what the demand is now for scenery.

I recall several years ago someone from the UK contacting me about carrying a range of buildings he was working on, including a complete La Haye Saint as well as other larger WWII type battle damaged buildings, but it died on the vines and never got off the ground.

As with anything, the demand from people is what drives the supply.

I have always been a fan of Dave and Carlo's work...
Dave's work is detailed with nice ground work...intricate architectural additions...
Carlo's work is exact and precise...everything I have seen is top notch...

Classic toy soldiers carries lines of foam buildings also ,,in and out of sets

isn't that bunker system a near direct copy of Contes D-Day bunker?

I took a look at the seller; that's John Atherton, he owns/owned a company called Formtech, he and his brother sculpted/manufactured numerous foam terrain features for their company as well as others like CTS and Conte.

I don't know the exact particulars on the pieces he is selling aside from some of them being Formtech exclusives, others were manufactured by Formtech.

I don't want to say the wrong thing and have some ambulance chaser/whiplash hustler contacting me as a representative of some company that I misspoke about.......................
