What is the general consenses regarding this piece of armour? The camoflage color scheme is holding me back from purchasing it......Also seems to lack much detail in photos although I seem to like the tank figures that come with it......Thank you for any and all responses........

I Have To Admit I Boughtit, But With The Idea I Would Repaint It For The Italian Or Russian Theater

The wheel/track detail doesn't look as good as other recent K&C releases.

The colors are a tad bright for me.

I would only be interested in this piece in it's "Ferdinand" form for the Battle of Kursk.

Vezzolf,

The Elephant/ Ferdinand is one of my favorite K & C items. The detailing, including the tracks is fantastic. The stock photos do not do it justice. I am a big fan of the tri-color camo but there is always the option of getting it repainted. If you want a very detailed model of the Elefant then this is it.

When I collected original German Helmets from WW2 many of the camoflage ones were of these exact colors....fyi...

While I am not going to buy it as it really doesn't fit my collecting focus, it is a really really neat vehicle and those of you out there who collect WW2 exclusively will really enjoy it.

This seems to be the year of the KC "Big Guns"- the Elephant came out and now we have the tracked 88 AFV. It's been really fun seeing what they are doing.

I like the elephant, it has reasonable detail with a good albeit suspect camo finish and its size gives you plenty of bang for your buck.

I love this thing! Its' sheer size. It is monstrous. I have held off because of other purchases. But , Oh yes it will be mine..... MUAHAHAHhahhahahahaaaaa:eek:

I agree the photos don't really do it justice. After my vacation I will post some photos to try and really capture it!

Just seen this post.

Quick reply but know a man who knows everything about every single one of these vehicles that were built.

The major issue with this piece is that it is historically incorrect. Never got to Normandy as described in literature. So was never produced in paint colours as depicted.

Oops I forgot to post pictures! I will have some nice ones up shortly!

Okay this monster is hugh!

Who wouldn't love to be in Andy's position (discounting all the business headaches!) You spend your day pouring over wonderful military history books, periodicals, and publications......wearing your favorite Airborn regalia.......and in Andy's case a kilt perhaps? Just looking for the perfect piece to have your master modelers sculpt then send to you for approval!

Weekly you recieve one of a kind master models painted in various schemes until you select just the perfect one to order into production!

Hell they ought to make a TV show about this process, we are all very fortunate to have someone producing item after item all for our selection!

I have read comments like no more tigers, or no more shermans......but you really can't say Andy isn't producing far more different items then all the other manufacters combined!

And I can't see anyone complaining about the treads.......or the price for that matter on this beauty!

Just my opinion.......grab this one before it drives off into the distance!

Thanks njja,

Those pictures do a much better job of showing this beast.

Thanks for posting the pics. I know that this is the later version but. I do not care. It is way too cool:cool:

The K & C Elefant is a great piece. The Elefant was used against the Russians and it was used against the Allies in Italy, which means you can use it in different settings. You're collecting toy soldiers "pretend" the crew was flamboyant and made the choice to paint it in the "willy nilly" Normandy camo. The sculpting and detail is so good I can look beyond the fact that there is one extra color in the camo.

Welcome to the forum Winston,

While I agree with your comment regarding Ferdinands/Elefants not being present in Normandy I'm puzzled how that means the standard mid war paint scheme is incorrect.

Quite often we hear the term "Normandy paint scheme" but all that really means is the standard mid war German paint scheme that was applied between Feb 1943 to Aug 1944 to all German AFVs. This consisted of Dunkelgelb being applied at the factories and RAL 8017 (Schokoladenbraun) and RAL 6003 (Olivgrun) being supplied to the maintenance units for application to suit conditions. The green and brown were supplied in paste form and were thinned with a solvent. This resulted in considerable variations in the density and hue of these colors.

The vehicle depicted is an Elefant which is essentially a refurbished Ferdinand. It has had Zimmerit added to the lower portions of the hull which means it would have had a fresh coat of Dunkelgelb applied. As noted above the green and brown would have been applied in the field after it arrived at it's next assignment (Italy?). I don't see any problem with the paint scheme.
