Your scenic dioramas are always great to view Michael . . . thanks for sharing your photo and talents with us again . . . . .
:smile2: Mike

Wonderful scene and really not a stretch. There was subspecies of Buffalo native to the Eastern USA. It was larger and darker than the plains buffalo, but with a smaller hump. The length of the front and rear legs were similar, unlike the plains bison where the front legs are taller than the rear. Of the four subspecies of bison native North America, the plains bison was the smallest.

The last eastern bison was killed around 1825 in West Virginia (Valley Head). In 1790, the last large bison herd in Pennsylvania was estimated at 300-400 animals in the Seven Mountains. The last bison killed in Pennsylvania were killed in Union County in 1800 or 1801.

Not far-fetched, either, because isn't the buffalo relatively near-sighted? They have a better sense of smell, if I understand correctly, and hearing, but a skilled hunter can stalk one till he's relatively close, or approach a herd and then wait in a blind, as it were, till one gets close enough for arrows or even a spear.

The Black Hawk buffalo is a great figure, too, very realistic.

Prost!

Mike,

Did you make the tree in the scene? The old decaying logs along the streambank really adds a nice finishing touch to the whole scene. Again wonderful work.

thank everyone for the nice comments...

Nicely done. Did you make the dio?

Brad

Brad...yes I made the diorama...it's just a little river scene and some shrubs...

Mike,

Ken...yes I made the tree...it was an old broken branch from a tree that I found in the yard...you can't beat Mother Nature for realism...

Another wonderful display, Mike. I knew it was yours at first glance. Must be your attention to detail, story line and superior photo skills. I gotta' go find that thread in which you listed all the dried or preserved ground cover that you use. I agree that the back yard can be a wonderful place to go find material. --- Larry

Excellent piece of work Mike as usual..love the water effect!!!. Hope those redskins are bad marksmen, the Bison is far to nice to hang over a fire!!

Steve

Great job Mike. Love the way the water looks and seeing the reflections in there (of the buffalo) makes it so realistic looking.
