I am trying to find out more about the beer wagon manufactured by trophy.

How many versions, and what did they comprise off?

Where there two horses or six?

The barrels, were they metal or plastic?

Here is some info from a 1992 catalogue about the two sets available then.......note the prices:wink2:

The barrels are metal, I have some with a special supply wagon I ordered but in 1993

Hope this helps

Cheers

I have the one with two horses. What would you like to know?

Here is mine.

I think John (johnnybach) also painted one, so you might want to have a look through his painting threads.

It's a really neat piece, to be sure.

Prost!

Thanks Martyn, so I was able to obtain c010. The barrels seam to be produced in a resin rather than a metal. I judge this by the weight of the solid cast. Unless the metal in does not contain lead.

There is also a Christmas set with four horses, Santa and an elf driver you might look for. Tommy

Hi both - I did make up a Brewery dray - but NOT the Hancocks Brewery - but another Old Cardiff brewery - Brains - ( who now own the old Hancocks brewery site - on the banks of the River Taff in Cardiff, South Wales).

I did ask the current owner of the Trophy Moulds - IF he would make up a set for me to purchase - but he declined to do so.

There are two Toy Soldier companies that I know of in the UK - who will either sell you some parts to make up a Brewery dray, or paint them for you (with metal beer barrels too). The first is ATS, where I bought the parts to make up my Brains Brewery dray (this was an adaptation from parts supplied). All of it was sculpted by Alan Caton - so no wonder the parts are excellent (see below). The two figures come with the kit - though they are optional. Note also that the signboard on the cart was made up by me to look like the real thing - and didn't come with the kit.

I also understand that Dorset Soldiers make a version of a brewery dray too (which is based on parts similar to the old Britains GS wagon) - which I will be getting myself one of these days, because I'm interested in making up another dray - in the Hancocks Brewery livery. I have a very personal reason for wanting one like the Trophy version - as my Grandfather actually was a drayman for Hancocks, although this was before I was born - and he died before I could ever have met him. He was called up for WW1 - and due to his horse-driving abilities - soon ended up in The Royal Horse Artillery, where he was critically injured in his head by shrapnell. (No tin hats at that time of the war).

I think that a couple of Britains old hollow-cast farm-horses might be suitable donor figures for the horses - so have been keeping an eye out for two candidates.

Here's a pic of my current Brains version - which didn't have the high seat - but is based on some real pictures that I obtained from the present-day Brains brewery, who kindly helped with my small project.

Hope that helps.

Don,

I can check mine tonight, if you wish.

By the way, there is one on eBay, the two horse variety. The owner has been trying to sell it for a long time without success. Currently he has it at $325, wih a Buy it Now, which I think is a decent price, in case you want to purchase one.

Hi Don

Here is a picture of the barrels from my "special order", I thought they were metal but they are made of a resin :redface2: ^&grin

Here are some photos of my collection
I am lucky enough to have both versions IMG_2912.jpegIMG_2913.jpegIMG_2914.jpegIMG_2915.jpegIMG_2916.jpeg

I was able to obtain mine for $250. The one on eBay now was increased in price this year but as stated has been around for several years unsold.

When I get home I will photograph and post a version of a two wheel dray that I have cast from a master produced by Norman miniatures around the late 60s. Don,t know anything about the company, must have been a small cottage industry. It came with a single shire. Three 100 litre barrels. Normally this would be drawn by two shires one in front of each other. Imagine the weight of each barrel.

They look very similar to the barrels Armand Bayardi makes. I have some of them, too. Very nicely sculpted, with crisp details.

Prost!

Mine are similar but more of a grayish color.

Here is a photo of the beer cart I am casting. The original was made by a company called Norman Miniatures, Made in yearly 70's I believe.
