Sorry brad, it's not the Beatles, but Def Leppard!!!! even today listening to thier greatest hits cd while doing some yard work was like... man, it's sounds as good today as it did growing up with it in the 80's,

rock of ages
photograph
hysteria
pour some sugar on me
foolin
bringin on the heartbreak

just a few of some awesome songs, but what's really strange, Def Leppard wasn't really that accepted at first in the U.K. until they made it big here in the U.S. sounds like you U.K. boys missed out on them at first,

"come on, what do you want?? ...I want rock and roll""...Sammy

Sammy, man, you're not even in the ball park.

If I'm thinking of best bands from Britain, besides the Beatles, did you forget the Stones, Cream, Led Zepellin, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, the Who, the Kinks, Blind Faith, the Yardbirds. Do I need to go on?

Brad, you and I are from different decades I guess, I do like alot of the bands you mentioned or certain songs, but to be honest I have a collection of over 300 cds and do not own any of those groups you mentioned, oh well we could argue this case all nite!!! Def Leppard is better, na-n-a-na-naaa:)...Sammy

Well, is this presented as fact or opinion?

Not to get into a sparring match with you but my collection is over 2,000 Cds plus and I find it odd that you wouldn't have any music from some of the heavyweights not just of British rock but of rock in general.

The Beatles of course, but to me there is a very special and unique British band: PROCOL HARUM

It's of course my opinion, but I do like some of certain songs from some of those groups just not enough to buy the whole cd, and I had older brothers who loved Iron maiden/ judas priest/who/etc...but just never seemed to like it that much...Sammy

Yo Trooper, you should be really:eek: Ireland a British Territory, Try Northern Ireland and you could be right. But like the Yankees we threw the British out. Hang on a minute I am British:eek:;). Back to the question Hard one to call seen all the Great Rock Bands, But Queen must be rate near the top. But if we did throw Ireland in the pot, would have to put U2 top.

Sammy I'm with Brad on this one albeit Def Leppard came through later on than most of those he has mentioned- described this side of the pond as the British New Wave Heavy Rock scene. But they don't even scratch the band they tried to imitate in music and name Led Zep. I remember that at Reading festival they were booed and pelted with beer cans by the audience cos they were so godammed awful.

I did buy one of their albums in fact their best "Hysteria" which I believe every track became a singles hit your side of the pond but they hardly dented the charts here unlike the leaders of the movement Iron Maiden. But you have to admire their drummer Rick Allen who lost his arm in a car crash and somehow just kept on playing.

The Clash were the greatest British rock band of the twentieth century.

I note that Def Leppard is not even a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

now a far as Ireland is concerned love the Cranberries.

How could I forget Pink Floyd. They belong in the top 5, if not in the top 3 along with the Beatles and Stones.
