I am a relatively new collector of Britains and may be looking to move into K&C. Any idea about what range to collect?

I love the Napoleonics, but I suspect your question may be viewed as the equivalent of asking which god to believe in!{sm4}

Yes, definitely a tough question. There are different ways to go about this decision. The best way is to choose the line that matches your interest. It will be more rewarding and lasting for you that way. So, ask yourself if you have a particular interest above others. If you love variety, you could pick a couple of different ranges you like, maybe in different time periods even, or get into Napoleonics - lots of armies with colorful outfits. If you are a completist and must have all of a line, you will want a newer line. For example, RAF has a few expensive items but would be workable because it is still pretty new - the same with Napoleon in Egypt. Many of us are eagerly awaiting a new line of Russian and Eastern Front pieces - another option for you soon. If space is a major concern, stay far away from anything that revolves around planes; again figure-oriented lines like Napoleonics have an advantage. If waiting for new pieces gets you frustrated, don't choose American Civil War, as the releases are often far between.

It would really all depend upon what your favorite era is.....Napoleonics, Civil War, WWII, Alamo...???

Hello Kevin;
Ask a thousand TreeFrogTreasures members and you will get 2000 different answers.

Like you, I also live in Massachusetts (near Boston) and I have been collecting K&C AWI for many years.

The collection has grown to about 1250 figures, so you know my answer. My decision was based on geographical location and historical interest. Plus, I think that the sets are some of the best K&C makes; look at the British Highlanders and the Fusiliers as a small example.

Plus, the prices are a bit better since you won’t have the cost of vehicles and Armor (which in some eyes might be a negative?)

I might suggest a line that is relatively new since getting some of the LONG retired pieces may be difficult. However, the hunt and discovery is almost as much fun as actually getting the figure.

Any questions let me know on this thread or a PM.

There are lots of K&C ranges. Some are more active with frequent additions, some don't get many additions. Do you know what ranges exist? You can check here to see the ranges. http://cis.niagara.edu/kandc/

What period interests you? That would be the first question.

Terry

Kevin,
Terry is right, what period/era or conflict interests you the most is the first step and take it from there and have fun.
Wayne.

Kevin,

My coleagues bellow put it correctly: go for the period/conflict you like best. If you ask me, no doubt I'll say WWII. It's K&C most extensive range, covering a vast array of fronts within WWII; you'll never run out of new releases, and will find lots of retiered items on sale in may different places, from e-bay to toy soldier selling sites.

Wow Larry!! That is a gigantic collection!! Are all 1,250 figures AWI ones? If so, that must be spectacular- the KC AWI sets are very appealing.

Hello Kevin-

well, I think everyone hit the nail on the head- it depends what you like- I first started collecting King and Country WW2 Figures- Yanks, Russians, DDay series. Over the years my interests have changed- I now have added the Egyptians to that list. I currently do not collect WW2 only Romans and Modern warfare, both of which KC did really well. So dont wait and jump on in.

I am happy to say that, yes, the 1250 sets are all K&C AWI.

The numbers fall somewhat heavy on the British forces with about 750 +/- K&C sets; as compared to the Colonial Army with about 500 +/- K&C sets .

I am still hunting for many of the sets in the series' that I didn't get the needed quantity of guys to adequately show what I wish to represent. I think Cornwallis has the same problem. K&C Andy retires the series to soon to build up a marching column or firing line. However, I am getting there. In big need of Militia and Backwoodsmen and older Colonial Marines.

I have been working this past summer, fall (and now winter) on a room that will hold a "super diorama" {sm3} made up of 5 or 6 sheets of 4'X8' plywood in a "U" shape. I have wanted to do this for many years, but just got the space. Ever since I saw the very large dioramas at the Bunker Hill Monument / Museum I have dreamed about this happening.

The diorama will not be any one particular event or battle, but a display of all the AWI sets and diorama/display structures. However, I might possibly go with a Bunker Hill scene if I can get some more K&C Militia and Backwoods men. Or move deeper into First Legion.

I also have some older Britians AWI and Conte AWI sets that (?may?) go into the diorama, but not sure.

The room will FINALLY be finished this month (Feb):D and then the fun begins.

IF there is any interest I can post progress pictures of the building and all the sets.
Good Hunting!

Larry that sounds like a tremendously ambitious project- I certainly commend you for taking it on. Interesting you bring up the U shape because that was something I have kicked around as well. I was driving to work today envisioning your 1,250 man AWI dio and it really did put a small on my face thinking about everything you can do with that. I am a Roman collector and had considered doing that with my Romans and putting my Conte Roman War Galley "docked" in the bow of the "U". I spaced off enough room in my basement to place 6 plywood sheets myself though I do not believe I am going to need that much room for WW2, Modern and Rome.

So yeah, let her rip!! I am in agreement as well when you mentioned that some of these ranges can more affordable when you loose the vehicles.

Larry...

Look forward to the development and pics of what sound s a fantastic project
