Also could look like shill bidding by trying to find out the highest bid ! Personally I block buyer like that as there wasting people time , it take a lot of time and work selling on ebay to be wasting time with people like that ,also don't forget people can see that you retract bids as well in your profile and people will block you

I do not know if there is a listing, if you go to an auction and click on 'bids' then click on a bidder it will show "Bid retractions (6 months):"

Examples:

On this auction the bidder with feedback rating (as of the time of this post) of "c***i(3103)" has 7 Bid Retractions in the last 6 months;

Not that it is ethical but from reading this thread it looks like bid retractions are not that big a deal. I was under the assumption you could loose your ebay rights by retracting a bid. Doesn't appear that way at all.

And this means what? That's it ok to retract a bid.

If so, can I have you ebay user id as I don't want someone who constantly retracts bid bidding on my auctions.
 
I have to agree...

anyone that retracts a bid on anything I have listed...

goes straight to my blocked list forever...

I am not gonna deal with that problem twice from the same guy if I can help it...

And in the same league; if there are 10 bidders top bid - £/$50 and the high bidder retracts their bid which results in it going back doen to say £/$49 then in the end does it really make a difference?

I think of this as a rather poor attitude.
You want an item, you place your bid, stick with it.

I have wanted to retract a few times but it was only because I foolishly bid more than I probably should have bid. Maybe I found the same item for much less later. I haven't retracted though because there has always been a bigger fool than I was that has saved my hide.

I have cancelled a bid when it was pointed out to me that my item was not properly described. I thought a box of toy soldiers in an Imperial box were Imperial when they were a mish mash of about 3-4 different makers. I try to look closer now but some things are not easy to discern at times.
 
It's just something that happens. Think people just need to get over it. And if you don't like it then delete your ebay account haha! Problem solved my good fellows.

For those who couldn't have guessed his eBay user id is the same as his forum name. As soon as I've finished the chores I'm doing he will be on my blocked list.

Haven't had to for a few years mate, but was usually because I found the same or similar item for less price elsewhere. Or a couple of times i have heard bad reviews in person about the seller.

Well............I have never retracted a bid ............but I quite agree with some of what you say. There are MANY occasions, when sellers describe things incorrectly - such as "BRITAIN'S, TIMPO OR SIMILAR". Then try and get away with "I'm an amateur with these items - but look like some of these" - or some such terms added after " the description" ( which would be laughable - if it wasn't such a lazy way to describe something).

Then, once you have seen this - "Let Buyer Beware" - is my advice. Try and find out a bit more about what you will be bidding on - (books or internet searches advisable) - and THEN - the best bit of advice of all - decide what is the MAXIMUM you are going to bid for the item - and stick to it!!

The maddest I ever got with a bid retraction was when I was a bidder not a seller. Crown Toy Soldiers had a John Jenkins Item I wanted and The statring bid was $100.00. Some bidder had placed 4 bids on the item but only his bids were lisited. So I bid the item up to $200.00 and he still had 2 bids higher than mine.

The day before the auction closed he retracted all his bids so I was the high bidder at the $100.00 starting price. Than just before the bid closed the next day he bid $199.99 and I was stuck with the $200.00 price. He already new what my high bid limit was and he placed a bid 1 cent less than my high bid to intentionally stick me with that price. He had no intention of out bidding me.

He should have not been allowed to rebid on an item that he retracted on. Well I filed a complaint with EBay that went nowhere but after talking to Nicholas about it he honered his starting bid and I got it for $100.00. Crown is a class act.
