Bid Retractions (1 Viewer)

The maddest I ever got with a bid retraction was when I was a bidder not a seller. Crown Toy Soldiers had a John Jenkins Item I wanted and The statring bid was $100.00. Some bidder had placed 4 bids on the item but only his bids were lisited. So I bid the item up to $200.00 and he still had 2 bids higher than mine.

The day before the auction closed he retracted all his bids so I was the high bidder at the $100.00 starting price. Than just before the bid closed the next day he bid $199.99 and I was stuck with the $200.00 price. He already new what my high bid limit was and he placed a bid 1 cent less than my high bid to intentionally stick me with that price. He had no intention of out bidding me.

He should have not been allowed to rebid on an item that he retracted on. Well I filed a complaint with EBay that went nowhere but after talking to Nicholas about it he honered his starting bid and I got it for $100.00. Crown is a class act.

that is a nice story!

still...

it's a shame Ebay doesn't address these type of bidders...

What a crafty ( not to say malicious) Gitt!!! T

THAT should never be allowed. Firstly to retract a bid ( which I never knew you could do - before reading this thread) - and THEN - going back in with ANOTHER bid UNDER the one made.

I think that e-bay ought to be reviewing their procedures. That should NEVER be allowed. jb

Infact I remember!

I retracted a bid once because i only bid so that i could see how much the other bidder had put as highest bid.

so Scott...

you didn't even want the piece...

you just bid knowing you were gonna retract your bid...

that's not right...

that influences the final outcome for everyone involved...

I would block anybody from my auctions if I knew they retracted a bid for that reason...

Mike,
wholeheartedly agree with you and this thread in general. I have always gone with the motto - you bid, you pay. It is that simple.

Scott are trying to be funny or just plain ignorant? There is no excuse for what you did. If I were you I would stop commenting on this thread.

Some people can't help themselves. At this point, he's probably doing it to get people going.

I wouldn't be surprised if you are proud of it.
What a low attitude.

Haha what is this? The Gang up on Scott thread?

Think you guys need to chill out and remember we're all friends and collectors here.

Anything else can just be thrown away.

No i did it on a piece I wanted to see how much it was going for.

Why would I bid on something I didn't want?

And you guys think that some of what I say is stupid?^&confuse:rolleyes2:

Scott

You brought this on yourself so don't blame anyone else.

Scott, learn from the old guys. The world may be different today, but these old values will take you far.

Scott, keep posting. There is no way either buying or selling would I do business with you.

And how does that effect me? With an attitude like that you're probably a terrible seller:wink2:

And I've never wanted any of you're amazing sets before so why would I want any now that you're having a go?

Scott

That's easy for you to say when it is not you that the 'Old Guys' are having a go at for voicing your opinion and being honest.

Maybe that's half the problem; maybe there's something to be said in the way that the 'Old Guys' don't like or can't keep up with how 'the world is different today'. Well chaps I think it's time to wake up and if you don't like honest young men voicing their opinions then that's your problem. Maybe it's time the 'Old Guys' listened to the 'Young Guys'!

Scott...

I'm not trying to gang up on you...
but I don't think you understand the implications of these bid retractions...

if I'm selling something...
and you run up the price...
then pull out...
it affects the other buyers...
and me...

if I'm buying something...
and you run up the price...
then pull out...
it affects me...
and the other buyers...
and the seller...

you have found a way to circumvent Ebay's policy and we are the ones suffering from it...
very clever...
good for you...

and apparently Ebay doesn't police their policy on when you can retract a bid...
or you wouldn't be able to get away with this...
as Ebay only cares to make the sale at top dollar...

you brag on post #8 that you do this all the time...
you make it sound like a buying strategy...

everyone is trying to explain the implications of your bid retractions to you...
and you're just not getting it...

maybe you will understand when it happens to you...

Don't mean to preach, but let's realize that people are people and will do what they will do. Some take advantage of others, some do not. Some may not realize how their actions affect others and must learn that. Some don't give a rat's you know what. Others make honest mistakes and try to undo them. I'm sure that all of the above are found on this forum. But our replies are going to do little to change any of them. So perhaps the best we can do is cool it after the original points have been made and remade.

Honest you men scamming the system to their advantage, is not your problem but our problem. It is also a problem when old guys do it.
I think your attitude will change when it happens to you one day.

Al your warm and fuzzy thoughts are appreciated. But what he is doing is flat out wrong, no gray area here. He keeps defending himself so the error of his ways are being pointed out. One learns from ones mistakes. So in reality we are just helping this young man in his journey through life.
