Big boy’s games… big boy’s rules (1 Viewer)

The more I read about this issue the more the “American” in me becomes irritated. It feels like the “Crown” is dictating to us, and we know how well that went over the first time. Can you imagine what the out cry would be if every manufacture used the same policy as Andy. One price’ no sales, no dealing. Take it or leave it. Come to think about it, the company’s name King & Country hits close to home. While the dealers may have chains, we the buyers do not. Maybe we should band together, show some discipline and not buy the Crown's product for a while. Will we effect a change in policy or will Andy just stop selling toy soldiers ? I doubt that he will stop selling toy soldiers but if that happens, there are more then enough companies that will step up to fill the void. That is just the American way.

I vote boycott.....

But I do so with a heavy heart, knowing the dealers would be hurt..:(

Hi Guys,

Many thanks for all the reports from the recent Hackensack Show. By all accounts there were actually only 5 “official” K&C Authorized Dealers taking part…

As of yesterday morning there will only be 3 “official” K&C Authorized Dealers at next year’s show!

I personally would like to thank all the “posters” who were only too pleased to tell K&C what great “bargains” they picked up… there might not be quite so many next time.

Thanks again and best wishes,
Andy C.

Oops, who told...LOL

Seriously, is this some sort of Joke?.Is the author ACTUALLY comparing a price rise from a Toy Soldier company to the American revolution?.Large dose of perspective needed here me thinks. No one has to buy anything, I don't think issues of race should be brought into these conversations.
Rob

Are you playing the "race card" now?

Oh alright, you convinced me, I will not dump any toy soldiers into Lake Michigan.

Having talked to my British and American friends about the new War between the two countries because of K&C's price rise , how about before the Battle starts we all meet up in Boston for a drink.....about tea time?!:D

I hear that an American clergymen is organizing a televised public melt down of toy soldiers gathered from collectors all over the globe in response to recent events. He claims that members of our hobby are part of a global Satanic cult. This could become the next international crisis. The media will likely milk this event for all it's worth and world leaders will plead that it be stopped before it gets out of hand.

They can have my toy soldiers when they pry them from my cold, dead fingers. -- Al

Gentlemen,

First I would like to apologize to Peter and Shannon. I was not advocating a boycott. They are gracious hosts to this Forum and it was not my intention to start something that hurts their business.

Tony,
No worries mate. Fully understand that K&C is in HK which is no longer part of the Empire. Hugs now and always.;)

Rob,
It was not the price increase but the dealer fixed price I was referring to. Sorry, was not attacking a race but a thought process. For the record, after 28 years in the Marine Corps I have more in common and am closer to the Royal Marines than my own Army.

Andy,
As Peter has just pointed out, your policy is common practice. Kudos to you for being open about this policy and taking heat for an industry standard.

The bottom line, the Capitalist in me disagrees with fixed prices.

My best,
Keith

No problems Keith, quite often in these forums things come over as they were not meant. My apologies to you if I took these the wrong way.:)

He'd better do it in seperate melt downs too, because some are metal/polystone and some are of an inferior plastic type, can't say what the quality will be like!

An apology to our hosts was in order. Thank you for doing so.

Equating K&C's dealer pricing distribution strategy with communism/socialim/non-capitalism is an invalid comparison. Really doesnt matter what business we are talkling about.

Businesses must have pricing rules for their distributors. Otherwise the result is chaos. Pricing is one of four critical components ("4Ps") of a cohesive business plan (Marketing 101). If a business abdicates that responsibility/lets others determine any of the four components, they give up control over their brand image/market positioning and ultimately are at serious risk of failure.

If manufacturers colluded with one another to set prices, that would be cause for outcry. Clearly not being done here. If dealers had no flexibility on what value-add services they could provide, that would be non-capitalistic. Again, clearly not present in this industry.

I for one appreciate the "Big Boy" approach toward this still somewhat cottage industry that K&C takes. It greatly increases the likelihood that we will have a well capitalized, well functioning industry for many years to come.
