So guys, with Chicago but days away what are we hoping to see from K&C and what surprises do you think may lie in wait?? I have a few ideas but lets hear what my fellow collectors think. Got to be some superb work from Gordon as usual , he never fails to produce excellent scenes, but what do you think the number one TS company will have on show on top of these dio's???^&cool

Rob

Rob mate,
I am hoping to see (and I use that word sadly because I won't be there) a Gordon Dio of the First Battle of Gaza, WW1, 1917 showing the newly painted British ME figures that we preveiwed in Brisbane in July. This range running concurrently with the ALH is going to be a big winner. Just think of the possiblities, Brits, Scots, Turkish Lancers, Tanks, Artillery, Planes, Camels, Arabs, etc. I know a young Gordon Dio will do this era of the Great War justice.
Cheers Howard

Sounds just excellent mate, I've so far resisted WW1 as I have a large Toy Army Workshop collection, but if this new range is as good as it sounds I can see my credit card going into action:wink2:

All the best Howard

I too want to see the ME range in glorious technicolour. However, what is a Gordon Dio?

A diorama made by Andy's brother Gordon, he is a master of the craft and always displays some wonderful scenes in Chicago.

Gordon is Andy's brother and makes incredible toy soldier dioramas for K&C and usually one or two for the Chicago show. These are usually sold to one or two lucky (and wealthy) collectors instead of taking them back to Hong Kong.

Battle scene productions makes better dio's than Gordon in my opinion. Gordon makes good ones dont get me wrong but not worth the big big bucks they go for. As far as what to expect in years past i thought in Chicago K&C doesnt debut that much and usually shows whats already been announced. I was never in Chicago just based my info from this forum so I could be mistaken.

Would be nice to see a surprise or two that has not already been seen or mentioned. As far as Gordon's Dioramas I think it would be fair to determine first how much time and effort is put into the displays........cost of materials, man hours, transportation costs to Chicago, etc all need to be factored in. I would love to have one of his
WWII Dio's myself but disposable income for now has to go towards all of the new Grey coming soon...............^&grin

Well that's one we won't agree on. I think Gordon's dioramas are superb and the best I have seen. ^&cool

I agree with Terry. Gordon has no equal that I've seen. Practically everything is made from scratch. For example, several years ago he made a portion of a French railway station that had a rail car. The car was made from scratch. Incredible. You have to see these in person to appreciate them.

In my opinion (and mine only) only Ken Osen comes close to Gordon. The dio he made last year for Figarti was just superb.

the most awesome experince i ever had at my 18 chicago shows was the one where i walked into kc's room and saw the beautiful falschirmjager piece with the homemade crashed ju 52. By nature i turned to my right and almost fainted. There was the hartenstein hotel and how realistic it looked with all the battle damage, the tennis court and all. Plus the br paras. I must have looked at these two for a half hour at least. Then there was also a crusades castle, then when you thin k you have seen everything you see the indiana jones type afrika korps layout. So so many details to notice . I was in awe. I finally took a seat to relax and than noticed a real cool winter scene with german tanks, skiers an overpass. Just an unbeleivable experience. So if anybody could ever doubt gordons ability they just need to go back on the forum and look at the pics from the show . It was one helluva job. Thanks gordon

Yup, that Ju 52 was amazing, all scratch made. The Hartenstein was similarly quite amazing.

Yep fully agree here. No offence intended to anyone else but as Brad says in my view Gordon has no equal when it comes to dio's, sublime work from him time after time. His groundwork is unmatched especially in WW2 scenes. In ACW scenes no one can touch Bob, (Uk Reb) his use of figures and groundwork are both masterful. These two guys are by far and away the leaders in their own fields for me.

Or the Muts nuts if you prefer Wayne^&grin

When it comes to dio's I think we are spoilt on this forum, every time I see one of Gordons pieces it makes me want to do more and push my own envelope as it were. Bobs action scene are simply unrivalled on this forum for their drama and heat of battle intensity and David of TM Terrain is a master at buildings, groundwork etc. These guys produce work that actually inspires you to do better. Just my tuppence worth:smile2:

And don't forget Ken Osen whose every bit as good diorama bases and buildings allow us lesser talents (or no talents) to do some fairly good dios too.
