Firstly I have to admit I am not generally a sci fi fan and shock horror the original Bladerunner did not make much impression on me. I think I have only seen it once and that was when it came out.

2049 LAPD cop Ryan Gosling spends the movie trying to find the child of former cop Harrison Ford who has gone into hiding since previous movie. People are out to kill the child. Ford did pick a good place to hide. Some interesting street "advertisements" that would normally cause serious congestion and accidents but seems routine in the future.

Wife and I only went to this as no other choice. For me I only rate it as average but probably biased as not my genre.

At 160 minutes towards the end I was thinking this is dragging on.

Produced by but not directed by Ridley Scott.

Seeing it shortly, thanks for your comments Brett. Robin.

Robin,
You and others may have a totally different opinion to me which was why I emphasised not my genre.

I am öne of those for whom the latest Star Wars movie causes no excitement.

Think I am going to prefer Idris Elba and Kate Winslet and a nasty mountain{sm4}.

I saw it last Saturday. As much as I loved the 1982 Blade Runner, can't say this one causes the same impact... Seems to me a 3rd one is loomong on the horizon...

My daughter saw it in 3-D and really liked it. Said it was pretty faithful to the original with great cinematography. She also said that from what should could hear from audience talk was that many of the younger crowd were not familiar with and hadn't seen the original. Kind of an interesting bit of info. -- Al

We lived in simpler times back in the 70's & 80's without all the hype an expectation that surrounds movies now-a-days.

I haven't seen the second one yet, but loved the original and remember seeing it without knowing much about it.

I guess it depends on what you're into, but I find some of the movie trailers these days give away too much.

The reviews were generally good here in the US (one reviewer called it a docile version of the original, more straightforward but not one that will reward you with repeated viewings as the original did and does) but it has done poorly at the box office so far. I plan to see it this weekend.

Saw this on cable today and really liked it although I thought it a bit long, taking more time than needed to get to the point. Cinematography was superb and liked all the on screen use of the spinner vehicles whose potential was really only touched on in the original film. Gosling was good, as was Harrison and glad to see an open ending. Best of all was the feel of the movie was very much like the original, even if more sophisticated. Felt of the same world. -- Al

Really liked the original but for some reason missed seeing this recent film at the cinema, have heard good things and look forward to seeing it.

Haven’t seen the original in forever, do I have to know about original to enjoy the new one?

I don’t think you can really understand the second one without seeing the first movie. Moreover, the original is a classic and should be seen even if you don’t see the second one.

I’ve read there might be a third one.

The original always reminds me of Tokyo.

Saw the second one and like the first it takes some time warming up to. I probably have to watch it again.

Love the original sound track by the Vangelis.

Agree about the sound track of the original. It was a very important part of the feel to the film. The sound track of the second film makes an attempt at the same feel but isn't quite as strong or important to the film as Vangelis achieved in the first film. -- Al
