Boardwalk Empire (1 Viewer)

Have caught several episodes of Kenny Powers and gang. It is unbelieveable! I can't stop laughing although I don't know if it is because of the language, the situations, or Powers himself. I think it is the most outrageous show I have seen.:D:eek::p -- Al

The really funny thing is it's dead on about many professional athletes like Clemens and Bonds. Not too bright, amoral, egomaniacs. My favorite quote from the show is from Stevie the band teacher after shooting up on Kenny's steroids: "I feel ten feet tall and strong as an ox!"

I got hooked watching his career go down the tubes in the opening sequences of episode 1. It all seemed so true. I also hurt myself laughing when he first took over the phys-ed class. Classic pro-athlete ego trip. -- Al

I have followed Eastbound and Down since day one...hysterical and very funny stuff...

La Flama Blanca...very funny stuff...it's a "no miss" on my schedule...

Thanks guys for turning me on to Eastbound. Watched episode #1 on demand last night, will watch more. How many episodes were with season #1 and when did season #2 start?

There were only six or seven episodes during season one and about the same number scheduled for this season. Season 2 started this fall about the same time as Boardwalk Empire. Read somewhere that Eastbound was one of the lowest rated shows on HBO. So I was surprised they picked it up again. Look for Will Ferrell as the slimy car dealership guy. One of the few TV shows I can watch over and over again. Some of the episodes this season have a darker edge to them and all the characters are new except for Stevie and Kenny.

Last night's Boardwalk was a pretty entertaining episode. Nucky revisiting his memories in his old home (and the results) were interesting. Also liked the sequences with the disabled vet. I wonder if that will develope further. -- Al

Episodes still moving slowly but something new every week. One thing is obvious, Nucky wants that road to AC built. I also want to see where the problems with Luciano are going to lead. -- Al

I thought last nights episode was a little bit better.
The TV critic in St louis at the begging of the season said this show (Boardwalk) is better than the Sopranos. No freaking way, it don,t hold a candle to it.
Gary

This is a good show. The first episode was great. But it can't be compared to the Sopranos.

I've heard of Lucky Luciano, Al Capone and Arnold Rothstein..anybody know if Nucky and Jimmy are real characters or fiction? just curious

I believe the Nucky character is indeed based, (loosely), on a real character of the same name. Don't know about Jimmy. -- Al

Not to spoil anything - so don't read the following if you don't want to know - but Nucky lived until 1968(!). So the gangsters didn't get him. Like Capone he did go to jail for tax evasion. Then lived an apparently uneventful life. BTW: he looked nothing like SB (see picture #2 below - he is actually the guy with glasses). An interesting series of pictures relating to the show:

Maybe it's odd, but I am fascinated every time they are discussing getting roads built. I assume they are talking about Rt's 1 and 9. Before the GS Parkway Rt 9 was the main road going north to south. I drive to Atlantic City at least twice a month, and can't imagine what the trip was like before the Parkway. It must have taken days to get from NYC to AC back then.

interesting....AC makes Louisiana politics seem lame..great show al lthe way around, only three episodes left for this season

Not a great series but better then some of the drech hbo puts out,,as per their custom too few shows and who knows when it will re appear,Hopefully the same dope that terminated the sopranos, carnivalle and my favorite ,being compared to the immortal Al Swearengen by my family,,Deadwood.

I thought last nights episode was very good.
I too wonder why Deadwood didn,t last longer, great series.
