Here is my new foam project. Its a bombed factory which right now looks like they bombed a Barbie factory but that will change with some paint. Here are some pics of the pre-assembled and assembled building.

Alex,

Beautiful work! I greatly admire your talent and creativity. Thanks for providing the pictures and, please, show us the finished product when you are able.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

When I picked up the foam from Lowe's I turned around and I saw this grating for flourescent lights and I thought that would be cool for windows.

Very interesting I thought it looked familiar, you know in my opinion you

appear to be having way to much fun........I suggest you keep it up!

What a clever idea and it looks professional.

Btw, I guess Lowes is a hardware store in the US. Our downunder Lowes is a mens wear store, and one of the very few that haven't added womens clothing to their range. Hell, it's not as if women don't have enough clothing stores without stealing our floor space

Great idea for the windows alex! Looks great I can,t wait to see it all painted up. I started a new project also. Its a windmill and I used plaster that I poured in my daughters little plastic beach pail and i,m now carving into stones doors windows ect.. I didn,t know what I was going to do for the top but I think i,ve decided to go with the blue foam. The windmill blades are made from craft wood and match stick wood and are not finnished yet and I still have a lot of carving to do but I wanted to show a photo of it in rough working state like you did so you can see how it was done. Keep up the good work alex I always like to seeing your stuff and maybe steal a few good ideas.:p

Wow thats cool. The carving looks real good. I'm having a hard time finding the thick foam. The only size I can find is 1/2 in.

To bad you didn,t live near me because i,m on a job site right now that has some of the thick foam on site and I could get you a bunch for free. Try lowes or home depot.

You guys are killing me with your talent. Good job fishead19690 and Alex.

I tried both. Maybe someone is beating me to it and is making a massive diorama. :D

Alex. Great structure. The pink foam stuff is great. The one thing I find I'm having to do is plaster corners of connecting walls on the outside. Are you covering the corners of joining walls or just leaving them as is.

Leaving them as is but next time I'll just cut them at a 45 degree angle. The plaster is a good idea as long as it has something to grip to. Can't wait to see yours and fishhead's final product. I just need your photographing skills. :)

Looks great Alex. Home depot usually has 1" Dow corning foam.
Sometimes I wander the isles at those big stores, looking for items and materials that might be of use for models. Good idea for those windows!

Fish thats a great looking windmill.Another splendid Idea I'll steal from you!

:p

Alex, Fishhead: You guys sure are creative. Like looking at your in progress dioramas.Pictures are neat. When I go to the big box stores I always look for diorama materials and wife thinks I only think of one thing-- maybe two things.:) How do you cut the foam board? Leadmen

So far on this project I have used a hobby knife. I have a hot wire foam cutter that works for tricky parts or curves.

My wife does the same to me in the stores:p as soon as she sees me looking at wierd things she has an idea that I will be making some kind of mess in the house making some stupid toy soldier thing that we have no place to put:p As far as cutting the foam goes I just use razor blades. I,m looking for a good foam cutter the one I got on ebay stinks I don,t even use it. It has a wire that is set up like a sling shot and you have to pull the wire tight and tighten the screws but as soon as it gets hot the wire goes slack and makes horrible uneven cuts but it does go straight through the foam easy. I,m sure there are some good hot foam cutters out there but the one I got isn,t one of them:mad: What kind do you have alex and how does yours work. I think if you can get one that would stay ridgid it would work great.

I have the Tippi one. Look at scenicexpress they have 3 differents ones to choose from. Are you talking about the "Wonder cutter" thats around $10. That one looks like it sucks.
