Bomber command memorial pics (1 Viewer)

Guys, 5.30 am yesterday and before heading to show, I went up to Green Park and got some pics of this superb new memorial to the heroes of Bomber Command. Its very impressive and the detail on the crew figures is brilliantly done. There is also a great quote from Churchill along one wall that goes something like ' Whilst the fighters were our salvation the bombers gave us the power to hit back' . Was disappointing though that as the media centre and seating area had not yet been taken down I couldn't step back to get a wider shot as there was a high fence to my back.

Finally, in the heart of our capital we have a fitting tribute to the men of Bomber Command;

Great pictures. As you say it really is a superb memorial to bomber command and, you can tell its been really well thought and planned out to really show what these crews meant to us and our country. Finally, Harris (a few years back) and the aircrew are given the acknowledgement they deserve

Thank God they didn't do some abstract piece of 'modern' art that pigeons would fly upside down over!

Looks fantastic and I love the quote - when in doubt, draw from Ancient Greece - you cannot go wrong.

It really is a masterful memorial, reminds of the Great War memorials in France, which is only fitting as a tribute to a truely remarkable generation of young men.

Well said chaps, truly fitting memorial to all those of Bomber Command from all countries who did so much to burn the heart out of the Nazis and ensure freedom and peace. God bless every single one of them.

Stunning and worthy are the words that spring to mind. a proud monument to a branch of the Armed Forces that gave thier all for the freedom of thier Country and occupied Europe....Thankyou for posting these pictures my friend!!.
