Bored Tonight...Post a Diorama, LOL (2 Viewers)

UKREB! I like your Rebel collection. The figures look great. I'm starting to collect a bunch my self. I too prefer the Confederates to the Federals even though I was born in a Yankee State. LOL Take more battle photos, they are enjoyable to look at....Nick

Thanks for your comments Fubar-however I had a great tutor!.....YOU!!!!!. Now I bet that's got you thinking?

We met a few years ago on ebay when I bid on a Conte mounted Bobby Lee you were then known as "horribleharold" I was "decobob" that then developed into private transactions/a ton of toy-soldier and ACW chat by e-mails and loads of pix of your amazing grand scale dios which I down loaded and used as a master plan- I still have them.(and seeing some of them here on TreeFrog I swiftly worked out who Fubar was)
Consequently having cleared your whole stash of ACW metals you had at the time- what you see in the pix are a lot of your troops. As I said then and it's still extant- very few ACW buffs or indeed ACW toy-soldier nuts this side of the pond so I did really appreciate all your tips and know-how on dio builds, display and lay-out.

So thanks for the compliments Harold and good to talk again but take a very big bow yourself.
Bob the apprentice.

Bored this morning..........The Lt.

If there was another era that could wean me off my pash! -the ACW- it would be the Zulu Wars not helped at all by your splendid dio of the action at the Drift. Your posting scene after scene is like watching pictures from an old Kinescope but in magnificent color.
I must also add that your Frontline B Company 11/24foot figures have almost changed my mind re: their animation. I have not been a huge fan of Frontline having bought a whole passle of their ACW figures for my dio and finding them to be somewhat static and kinda stiff-legged- what I call "Douglas Bader poses"
However, the figures in your dio appear much better posed than my Rebs or Yanks.

As an aside and not wanting to bore you anymore than you are tonight I have a good pal in Durban SA and after many years paid him a visit back in 2000 which was really a business trip on a pretty tight itinerary. However, I asked him how far was it to Isandlwana and the Drift....not far at all.... so off we set.
But on the way we came to a place called Fort Eshowe-Kwazulu-Natal where Pearson was beseiged by the Zulus for I think 10 weeks until relieved by Chelmsford in April 1879. The fort (reminded me of Beau Geste) houses the Zululand Historical Museum which is a fascinating place full of artefacts from all the battlefields. Needless to say we stayed longer than we should and finally pushed on to Isandlwana. My apologies if you have visited this place because you will know it remains much as it was in 1879 but I found the experience to be extremely haunting, the battlefield is absolutely vast and dotted with white cairns marking the last resting place of Chelmsford's doomed troops. Walking around that field trying to locate last stands etc had an eerie atmosphere that pervaded the whole area and as it was getting close to sunset the feeling got stronger. When we left it was dusk with no time left, unfortunately to visit the Drift and I flew out the next day. But that experience of walking across Isandlwana can still haunt me today and your pix vividly brings it all back.Thankyou!

Stay bored and keep posting.
Bob

Panda1gen, those black and whites are great. UKREB,what can I say, those are fantastic Civil War Battle scenes, are you sure your not from North America? Lt., nice shots of the Brits defending, don't look for a while, and WOW, everyone starts posting, Great post, Mike:)

Thanks Bob for your comments and most of all the telling of your visit to Isandlwana wish I'd been along I've got a snowballs chance in ____ at this time in my life of sharing your experience. I'm pleased with my Frontline Sets they've done a great job with the uniforms and equipment of their 24th figures as well as their poses overall. Looking forward to your next spell of boredom and following your advise staying bored.....The Lt.

UKREB, Thank you for all the kind remarks. It's nice to know ones efforts and considerations are appreciated. "You've come far Pilgram!"
A line from one of my favorite films.Thank you very very much.
Please keep posting shots everyone. It's boring here and raining cats and dawgs.
LT. , You're ZUlu pix are having the proper effect. I was looking at the Frontline site for all the 24th foot and Zulu figures and tallying the damages. My collection is all just painted Conte and ACTA plastics. Need some metals.Never got around to a battle with the playset like I said.
I'll post something new whenever I get a display back out on the table.

Heres an OLD pic, I dont think I have posted this one.

FUB I'm sure you'll find the damages well worth as time goes by and looking forward to your next group of photos of what you have to date. Thought I'd add a little more fuel to the fire featuring Keith Rocco's metal figures holding off Conte's Zulus......The Lt.

Lt., looks like you have that wagon well protected. I don't know what the Zulu are looking for in those sandbags. Fubar take your time posting, your pics are always worth the wait. Great paint jobs on your Conte plastics, I don't remember that pic. I like the way you use common rocks and sticks, like our friend Fish, Great Stuff, Mike:)

keep it going....I'm fighting waves of nausea from some bug or other at present, been horrible, trying diversion therapy!

Fubar.

I hope you don't mind me posting these, but I downloaded these pics of yours a couple of years ago and ever since have copies of all your fabulous displays, and I thought some of the newer members might like to see what the "Master of the Table Top" can do with a few Zulus! :):)

Regards

Jeff

A master he is Jeff, great painting job with his Conte figures and looked like he had a ball in setting it up. I'm sure Fub won't mind in your posting of them for I know I'm glad you did. Wish I had his sze table to play with mine......The Lt.

I just wish I was his next door neighbour! :D:D

Fubar patiently schooled/tutored me some years ago by e-mail on how to build and display troops on a large size ACW battlefield by making full use of the depth and breadth of the field that would result in an "action packed" diorama
And as pleased as I am with my effort- No-one but no-one can touch the Master from Oregon!

bored king tiger - had some extra battle damage to the skirts - this was 'new out of the packet'- but bought two years ago so ......

Bored Marines and Sherman, looking out for your bored King Tiger.

What would be the end result if your lot met panda's lot? Allowing of course for the Tiger's skirt damage!

Reminds me of that scene in "Band of Brothers" when the Brit Tank Commander wouldn't fire on the French building that the 101st boys said was shielding a Tiger.
Good stuff!
