BOSS - so cool (1 Viewer)

I can't think of many toy soldiers I've enjoyed more than the BOSS sets. They are absolute classics. Great pic! Thanks
Joe

Love BOSS...Joe was very responsible for getting me started in the hobby with his pics from back in the day.

I was sorry I missed out on the Boss series, I contacted Richard later on to see if there were any left in his inventory anywhere but no luck :( another great set by Conte, to bad they left WWII...Sammy

I remember when these were first announced back when I was a Conte dealer, I thought they were great, so much action and animation in the sets; customer reaction was luke warm, I ordered a lot of these and couldn't give them away.

Slowly over time they sold, then once they were retired, people came out of the woodwork looking for them, still get requests on these to this day from customers.

I came into one of each via a collection purchase about a year ago, they lasted about a day once I posted them up on my site as available.

Just another example of as a collector, if you see something you like, it's best to pull the trigger ASAP or else you might be SOL.

This is terrible - it's early Sunday morning and everything - but I can't remember what BOSS stands for????

Maybe Conte were ahead of the market at the time. Look at WB's current Zulu releases. Obviously Ken's connection. But years later in concept as a style for WB's.

Conte was ahead of his time with his diorama type releases that I thought at the time were cutting edge and brilliant, his ACW sets based on Troiani paintings were and still are top shelf items, also liked his WWII releases, the US paratroopers behind a hedgerow, US paratrooper hung up in a telephone pole, etc, etc.

Great, great stuff.........also, loved that flaming log from the Spartacus range.............

When Conte came out, KC hardly had any action poses, mainly patrolling type figures. So I bought Conte metal, which blew me away, kind of like when I first saw Marx WWII when I was kid. Like the standing pistol shooting British para, the wounded sitting para holding his shoulder with the kneeling para shooting his pistol and the US para with pistol pointing in one hand and a grenade in the other. Anyway, later KC came out with all kinds of action poses and my all Conte stuff went back in their boxes. No matter what has been said about Conte, he has his place in toy soldier history with his grounding breaking ranges, poses and terrain pieces.
