It is that time of year when the Brisbane collectors start to gather in a local museum to plan and build a variety of dioramas which will be unveiled to the collecting community at the annual dinner.
Once again Wayne, Bob, Brett, Phil, Glen and Martin will create history in miniature using a range of releases from King and Country, Thomas Gunn, John Jenkins and William Britains. Last year’s dinner was a great success – good food, good company and a variety of events ranging from the firing of a colonial cannon, highland dancing and the bagpipes.

The Brisbane Collectors are balancing a number of big events in 2015 – the hundredth anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign and the two hundredth anniversary of Waterloo being the two most pressing. Australians are generally very low key about Gallipoli but perhaps a few of you have heard us talking about it!

The first table will be an extension of our Western Front diorama. We have doubled the size of the diorama so as to include both the trench system and a much enlarged rear area. It will cover almost 10 square metres when completed. A second diorama will be a Battle of Britain airfield during September 1940, complete with the K&C RAF range which has now been augmented by a fire truck. A third diorama will be a massed French cavalry charge at Waterloo ( we will crack the 200 figure mark by quite some way!). It will be spread across two tables and include Wayne’s version of a famous series of farm buildings which some of you may have heard of!

We will then wait patiently for someone to release some figures for Gallipoli because when they do, we will have the cliffs and the water ready to go!

Wow, a enormous series of projects here in man hours, talents and expenditure. The best of luck, as previously this is sure to be another grand success. Look forward to the ongoing updates. Robin.

Ten minutes after we started I was making coffee. Five minutes later I was vacuuming.

What our 'tea/coffee, go-for and Dear Leader' person forgot to mention was we also have to do something with the Light Horse dio, will it be another Light Horse scenario? or may be an 8th Army scenario? one thing is for sure it will a desert scenario of some sort and that will be five or six tables on two floors perhaps! So we will be busy lads for the next few months. Now also what we need is someone around the Hong Kong region :rolleyes2: to produce a series of Gallipoli figures and etc and release them before April 2015, any takers...:wink2:
Wayne.

Really great that you guys get together and create these fantastic dioramas.Maybe someday you can make a New Guinea one for WWII.

I saw Galipoli soldiers made by Alexander Toy Soldiers (I think) in Toy Soldier Collector magazine a couple of months ago. They were jumping off their boats and onto the beach.

Looks like I'll have to keep a watch out on cheep flights across the country, and do another 'tour of inspection' this year :)

Maybe in July for the dinner, to get away from Winter in Perth ???

:)

Yes, Nik had this set on show for the first time at the June Show in London this year.

This is my picture of it, looks good, but I think he needs to use a more suitable colour of khaki for the coats of the Aussies ... they were not in tropical kit.

Bob and I went in and got a bit of a move on with the first diorama. The foam base is cut and glued. Note at the far end is a small portion of a canal which will be on the edge of a damaged French town.

Note the work cupboard. Every time someone wanted something last year I spent ten minutes searching for it. Not this time!

Hmm, do not like these figures at all! more wrong with them than worth all the effort required to correct them.....very big thumbs down from me.

I like the poses. I have some Napoleonic figures from ATS (must put in another order soon!) and got very good service. Trooper was kind enough to recommend them to me.

This thread is the start of a beautiful thing.^&grin With what's been planned thus far, another trip across the ditch may be in order.......now all I have to do is convince the wifey {eek3}:wink2:

Will it be a weekend dinner this time round fella's or more of a weekday affair?

Cheers

PS. Love the storage cupboard.

Another Sunday, we made a real start today...........

Bob, Jack, Glen, Mark and myself stood about and talked about it........

Then we thought about it...........

We played with it a bit..........

Then did something about it.........

Then looked at what we had done.....

Much, much more to do..............next time.

Is there something wrong with you guys and your cameras? The add 50 pounds!

The Brisbane diorama is belting along. The extension to the Western Front diorama will be essentially complete in a couple of weeks time - all ten square metres of it! Mark (Mark IV) has joined the merry men this year!
