WM BRIT fans,

I just bought this on Ebay.

I can't find any sites showing it or mentioning it.

It's advertised as VERY RARE??????

Can't be too rare, lol.

It's all over Ebay now and in the past.

I dunno?

I see several have sold on Ebay and one is currently listed.

Anybody know the stock number,
original retail,
if still in producion or ended,
was it a limited quantity,
is it rare and
where I can view this info other then Ebay?

Also is it a nice piece?

I would appreciate any help or links to research it.................

All I know is that it first appeared in the 2006 catalogue and was not issued in the 2007 one. The item # 17571.

Funny you should mention this set, I was thinking the other day that it might be neat to add to my Drift.

Scott,

thanks for the info you have provided.

Do you know of any sites I can view it on or if it's still on the shelves in any store?

this is on Ebay right now, with 4 days left at $39.99 on 2 bids.

He claims the retail is $219.99 if you can dind any available.

http://cgi.ebay.com/W-Britain-Civil...34.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=|301:0|293:2|294:30

I paid $56 for mine, there were 8 bids on it.

I saw some older ones that sold in the $60's range.

He claims it's "VERY RARE", but I have seen quite a few of them on Ebay in the last couple of days.

I dunno.

Fraxinus aka Ken, has one, and says it's a very attractive piece and in his opinion was a really good price.

He said the donkeys or mules were just a little smaller than the John Jenkin's horses, but in reality, a donkey or a mule is smaller than a horse.

The "rider" is removable according to Ken.

He also collects a lot of Jenkins and said it would be a good match and was a really good price.

I dunno,

If anybody can direct me to a site or link with it listed, I would appreciate it.

I have never seen any listed in the stores. I wasn't aware of it until last year when I saw one on ebay. I forget what it sold for though. The $219 seems reasonable for the rrp. Perhaps Ken (Britains) will be able shed more light on this as I think it was made under 1stGear/Britains.

Thanks for the link to the catalog page, that's it for sure.

I wish I could confirm the $219.99 retail somewhere.

For some reason it would make me feel better about the price I paid, lol.

Four horses, a wagon with cover and one figure might have been around that price in 2006. It does sound about right, maybe a little high, but close.

Fraxinus said he had seen them on shelves a while back for $219.99 but I would like to see it in print, lol.

Hi There!
I cannot confirm the MSRP on this item, but I will check with Richard to see if he knows. This was an item designed and produced under RC2, predating the ownership by 1st Gear. This item is a nice addition to the nineteenth century, and it could make a nice base for various conversions both civilian and military. There was not a particular military pattern designed in this period and the Army purchased wagons from various civilian producers.
At the price it was acquired for it is a bargain.
Ken

Hi Guys,

The original MSRP for this set was $169.95. I checked my Britains price sheet for 2006.

Hope this helps you out.

Any thoughts on using it for the AZW Ken?

Ken,

Thanks for replying,

with your sculpting background with Britain,

you should know.

If you say, "At the price it was acquired for it is a bargain.",

I will take that as "gospel".

Thank you.

Were there any covered wagons at Rorke's Drift?

There was one in the movie, lol.:D:D:D:D:D

At Islawanda,

I think you're safe with it,

but I definitely differ to the AZW historians.

Thanks for your help Scott, really appreciate it.

No problem Mike, can you take some snaps when you get yours and let me know if the canopy comes off.

Dave

You sure on that? I looked at our old database, and we sold them for $198. Back in those RC2 Britains days, nobody sold anything over retail.

Dave,

Your price sheet has to be at a discount, I have this piece also and I remember seeing the retail at 219, it never sold for that, but that was the Retail on it.

Mike,

Anytime you pay that sort of a price for all that metal, consider it a great buy.

I had been watching this particular set for about a year or so on EBay. The price has varied greatly. One fellow picked one up for $35 (I was not paying attention and let than one go, dumb me). I paid $135 in January of this year. I have seen them go for $300+. The price swing is very wide and it all depends, as everything on EBay does, on the number of bidders at any time.

... let me know if the canopy comes off.

The canopy does come off. It uses a post and hole method for securing it to the wagon bed so the post holes are visible when the canopy is off. The mules are very unstable. I was able to gently bend their legs about 1/16 of an inch to make their stance wider, but I still use taxy wax as they have a tendancy to fall over when I open the display cabinet. So, I had a local hardware store cut me a piece of 3/16 glass 3 inches wide by 12 inches in lenth. I waxed the mules down and now it displays very nicely and I can move it around without everything coming apart. I have done the same for about 25 Britains bands and 2 Britains ACW caissons, and 9 Frontline caissons.

Thanks for the information Michael. Good to know, I hate that when you buy something and it won't stand up/stay together due to a bad design.
