Britains Hollowcast Egyptian Lancer remake (1 Viewer)

Well - they have been ordered for me to collect when I'm over in October. I will need to double check that they are on the same horse - but I have been assured - they are the same. If that's so - then I will make them up in exactly the same format as the first one - except for the Officer - who will have the sword arm, of course. The only way you will be able to tell is by picking them up. The real hollowcast will be lighter!

Little did I know when I picked up that sad little broken soldier where this trail would lead. A bit like spotting that Brewers Dray from Trophy eh? Don't worry though - I haven't forgotten that little beauty either.

Good fun this hobby Martyn, you never know what's just around the corner, and I quite like that. :DJB

Hi Johnnybach,

I see you have discovered the joys of making your own toy soldiers with a vengeance! This is an excellent redux of a Britains figure. The base makes sense!

Hi Victor. Well, I don't do them from scratch - but I have done the odd casting over the past few years. But actually, I think for me, some of the most satisfying things I have produced - come from the sad little lumps of metal that you sometimes find in cardboard boxes in the strangest places.

They have sometimes passed through many hands - and gone from much loved toy - to battered and abused little lumps - and I just love the challenge of trying to put some of them back together again.

In this regard, Giles Brown of Dorset Soldiers has become not just a supplier - but a really good friend to me over the years. He has a simply excellent store of bits and pieces that he has gathered over the years - and can usually dig out the bits required to repair the most unlikely battered lump. All I need do - is send him a photo of the damaged soldier - and a description of what I think it once was ( or what I am trying to make up) - and he can usually dig something out for me to start a repair off.

This Egyptian lancer was really quite easy - as the four parts I required just came off the shelf. A little pinning and gluing - and then it's just another casting. As to the bases - I honestly think that this is why there are so many broken horse figures about. They just topple over far too easily without a good solid base - and that's why I prefer to give them one.

Anyway - glad you like him - do remember Giles - if you ever get stuck for a part.

Regards chum - johnnybach
