please post your photosThank for the kind reply to my first posting !
Today I plan to take pictures of the two remaining Nile River gunboats I made and some pix of a prototype "Tun Tavern" diorama I hope to release this coming February !
I plan to pass on to those interested some of the techniques I use in the design and materials handling for the making of some of my toy forts and such. Believe it or not some the box material used for the packaging of cereal is better than what was available in the 20s and 30s. I use a great amount of the old fashioned brown paper tape in the wrapping of the round oatmeal boxes, toilet and paper towel centers and numerous other items commonly found. I use these in the making castle towers that are first coated with white gesso, textured with wallboard patch and then painted with acrylic. "Talk about tough !"
F.Y.I. if you go to smm.solidmodelmemories.net and "clik' on galleries, you'll see some of the old time plans where I learned how to make models.
Back to the Nile River gunboat theme, I was interested in the level of technology and materials available in the 1840s for the building of these boats. From what I found was that iron sheets available from a mill were expensive and limited in dimension.
I loved the latin comment, "Evil to him who thinks evil !" Sometimes I do have some devilish thoughts but never act on them, most of the time !
With all that I have to do before Christmas, I may not get to post some pix before next week !

Well, with all of the talk swirling about the mass retirement of the current Sudan figures. I thought it would be nice to think positive and dream about what the next catalog will have in it for the Sudan collectors. Personally, I want more troops for my Nile gun boat and more tribes represented from the war...and camels, some palm trees..and some limited edition pieces....C'mon 2012!
Hi Guys:
The Nile Series was one of the first where we decided to release a large amount of figures over a pretty condensed amount of time. It was also one where we took the decision to order a little heavy to avoid running out too fast. What that means is we still have sufficient quantities to keep the series going in 2012. We will of course be adding some very exciting new sets as well - have a great group ready for the May catalog. You might find that this begins to happen more often, as we tend to release groups of figures all at once in a range they wil naturally tend to all be retired as a group. Do not fear, the series continues!
Richard
Thanks for posting those pics here! I will be adding them to my collection. What are the chances of seeing a gardner gun for the Sudan.
Hi Brent:
Thanks for the kind comments. The Gardner would be the next logical step...however, I want to make sure this well sells well first of course. We do have some more figures in the works for Sudan - vignettes, singles, special sets etc. for 2013 release.
Be good,
Richard
Richard, I completely understand. I just pre-ordered all three sets. The Sudan collectors are out there..and with pieces like the gatling gun they are sure to be a hit...any add-ons coming for my nile gun boat? I'm using JJD marines to fill in the ships ranks, but love to see some releases from you guys..
