It has been a while since I posted any photographs so I thought it was about time to rectify that. In the meantime, I have been accumulating British Guards and others to make improve my display options. This series is about a weak Guard company that finds itself cut off and surrounded by French cavalry. It is a work in progress since I have some stand in figures in the square, some supplimental ones that still need paint and some work needed on the grass and scenery but I thought I would share it at its current point.

Our story begins with a cutoff weak British company that was retreating toward the safety of some rocks when caught by pursuing French cavalry and forced to form square. A few detached rifles offer support from the rocks.

It doesn't look good for the Guards but they maintain the discipline of their square and stubbornly resist the French attacks.

The French attacks continue with ferocity from all sides; the French are blood mad with the anticipation of the slaughter that would result broken square.

Very nicely done dio Bill. Thank you for sharing your photographs of your great looknig display. It already looks soooooo good that its hard for me to believe that you do not consider it done.

You know when you put a bunch of those FL Naps together lilke that they look quite astonishing.

I like the looks of this setup. I'm looking forward to your future pictures.

Nicely done Bill. The FLs look great and you've done a fine job :)

Great display Mate ! I love the way you put the different poses together you really made them come to life . Really looks intense, **** those FL figures look good :)

Nice job Bill, glad to see you enjoying your collection like that, keep the photos coming.........

Bill-

Your set-up looks great even as a WIP! Can't wait to see how you improve on it. Glad someone 'nudged' you to post some pics.:)

Also, I like the modifications that you have completed on a number of the First Legion figures. They are very well done. I noticed the arm repositioning on one of the officer figures, on one standing figure, and on one kneeling firing figure. How many other modified ones did I miss? Also, when they are all formed up, the other manufacturers don't look too bad either.

Again, nice work.

Great set-up! These British soldiers are fantastic and displayed like this are truly very appealling.

Imagine how nice that will look when the FL Carabiniers join the battle! ;)

Fantastic dio, I'm spending too much time gazing at the detail instead of working and starting to get disapproving looks. Well done!

More please!

Great stuff Bill. I really like the conversion you have of the officer with his sword raised. I see a few others in there as well. I look forward to seeing more of this as it develops. I don't know if you've heard, but we have some charging heavy cavalry that will be shipping to customers next week that might just fit in with this dio...;)

I've also noted that your terrain seems more suitable to Spain than Waterloo.....why am i not surprised!!! ;)

Thank you all for the kind remarks. It is nice to be able to share some fruits of collection efforts especially since so many of you do that so often. Now a few specific responses.

It is beta because I am still missing a few figures I want to complete it, including some change out or additional re-painting of some of the non-FL Guards, different cavalry and some better integration of the grass and shrubs. I do think the Britain's Guards, as repainted by KV, fit in rather nicely. As I have said before, I also think the K&C and CS Cuirassiers do fit pretty nicely with these FL Guards. No question though, some FL cavalry with comparable poses would be more than appreciated and would definitely add to the effect.

While certainly not in Bob's league, I thought I would maybe continue this vingette a bit. As to who wins, since this is an historical "drama" who can say.

I see the sharp eyed among you noticed the FL conversions. The officer is one and two of the kneeling firing figures are another but in a way you probably haven't guessed. Each is a conversion of a standing firing figure and a kneeling to repell figure with one resulting kneeling firing figure and one standing charging / lounging figure. There are also a couple of original lounging figures modified to more aggressive attacking / thrusting poses. Perhaps you all can spot them as this progresses.

Really nice display, Bill. The FL figures are quite impressive and everything mixes so well. I like the definite Spanish flavor to the landscape, which fits nicely with your postings in the word game. -- Al

WOW !!

Thank you for sharing. I love seeing how other people display their FL figures. As to not being quite finished, will you ever really be finished? I am always adding figures to my displays. I will always want to increase the number of figures. You can never have too many figures when representing Napoleonic troop formations. I hope you continue to share more pictures with us as to add to your display.

How large is the total display area?

Thanks mate. Never have too many; indeed that is all too true. Having the budget for the ones you need; that is more the rub.;) Still they are starting to add up through gradual reinforcement.:D

THese are displayed on a 36 by 36 inch table in my allocated area off the kitchen.
