I just got my desert control tower and the AK kubelwagen. The tower is amazing, hefty, substantial, nice size and very detailed. I like the option of having machine guns or search lights. And the flag is really a nice touch. I also love the kubel, a necessary addition to any AK collection. However.... I don't know if I am happy with the scale. I placed in my desert diorama next to the old Fallschirmjaeger Schwimwagen, and the the Kubel looks smaller. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? I have not bought any of the newer Schwimwagens, so I wonder how they compare in size.

I know I sound like a broken record, but over 11 years of collecting exclusively K&C, the one thing that bothers me is the inconsistency in scale. I know, I know... if I want accurate scales I should build plastic models. But still, I think this something that K&C needs to work on. The latest tanks (starting with the Tunisian Tiger) are proof that K & C can do true scale well.

And since we are on the broken record mood. Can we go back to vehicles with removable figures? There are lots of British stuff that I would love to buy to use as German equipment (ambulance, trucks, etc). We know that the Germans appropriated a lot of Allied equipment. With small modifications, some British vehicles could be made into German. No one has ever satisfactorily explained why figures are no longer removable.

Just some thought, but again very happy with my new stuff.

The old Schwimmwagon was quite large, probably to allow all the figures that went with it to sit in the cabin. This was a 2000 release I think and, both bigger than the new schwimm and all the existing Kubelwagons. K&C's artistic licence I suppose.

I think fixed figures in some vehicles will be a cost move as its less to carve up the polystyrene to place a figure in the box and, in some cases will allow smaller packaging.

If you want to play around with changing sets then you are already thinking of maybe, new paint scheme, new markings so, go the whole hog and remove the figures its really not to difficult and, then you have more figures for alternative vehicles. I did similar for a collector in may where all the market garden fixed figures were removed so they could be paired up to his liking.

Interesting post. Was planning on getting both these two and the Red-tail 109 as the next additions to my North African Campaign. From the photos I've seen posted from the Chicago Show and elsewhere here these pieces look spectacular. Hopefully they're not too far out of scale from recent releases in the AK series
