Ok I thought I would ask the opinions of fellow members about weather those who make, take pics of or set up dios (for want of a better word) would like to see King and Country and the other manufactures produce more figures protraying the more mundane aspects of military life, after all most servicemans lifes in wartime were made up of 10% combat and 90% routine and camplife in general. I would like to see figures doing things like playing cards, in the chow line, brewing a cuppa, having a shave, digging trenches, loading trucks, and as an Aussie troops playing two up, well you get the idea. I don't suggest that this should be done at expence of what is now produced but as a extra for those who like do the different in their dios. Your thoughts guys?
Wayne.

Surely a good idea. As a former combat arms soldier for 20 years I would agree much more time is spent
Prior to raising your rifle so to speak than actual trigger time. Lounging, resting, playing cards are all part of
the waiting game until the lead flies !

I am 100% behind you Wayne . The dio possibilities with such TS's are endless. There are as much WW II picts of soldiers at rest as there are of soldiers fighting. It would open a whole new spectrum of dios to be made. A year ago I put the same question forward to both K&C and TG .

Was it during the initial releases of the Napoleon in Egypt range that the issue of rising costs was discussed as a barrier to buying multiples? The NE range was, from memory, seen as lending itself to small scenes rather than extended firing lines. Perhaps 'camp life' might be viewed in the same way. As an associated point, will K&C make diorama accessories or are they happy to leave that field to other manufacturers?

Yes I'm behind you 100% as well Wayne. Whilst I always enjoy looking at the various dioramas that are shown here, I tend to avoid buying the figures with combat related poses for the most part, the two exceptions being K&C Crimea and TGM WW1 Stormtroopers with gas-masks. I invested in both those series as they were useful for a couple of photo projects I was working on, but apart from that I'm not into the warlike stuff. I'd be more likely to buy figures of troops doing the day to day bs than the blood and guts stuff anytime.

I also agree with you Wayne.....Especially would like trench diggers, shaving, playing cards, mechanics working on tanks, refuelers, bombshell chargers....

And I would add that it would be nice KC also made separate rifles, machine guns, hand grenades, bottles, and all different furnitures: all this is needed to make a realistic diorama...

I think it is enough about marching and standing soldiers...

Mate my time in the Army was alot of "hurry up and wait",so non action would be superb,we weren't called "Diggers" for nothing.

Wayne:

Yes, military figures representing non combat activity would be very good as well as action combat figures. The old Kingcast, Ltd. of Wales, UK line had a great many such behind the battle lines sets. As I recall the Kingcast line stopped production in 1994.

Im on board with you Wayne. As a US Marine I have seen many a soldier get arrested because we have way too much downtime. Set of MP's arresting fellow soldiers would be original. Even Germans arresting "traitors" would be interesting. It happened (s) in every army so the sky is the limit.

Yes Poppo, in a dio these accessories are as important as the figures themselves

Yes Wayne...I"m right behind you on this one!!....Just occasionally i get a little tired of the standard action poses...Standing firing/Kneeling firing, ect..ect!!!! you get my point....What i would really like to see is a series dedicated to the Combat Engineers, WWII would not have been
won without them....How about a GMC with a mounted air compressor and a couple of guys operating an air saw??? or a Chevrolet telegraph
polesetter..add a set with a telegraph pole with a lineman at the top!!...unlimited possibilities.

And I thought I was the only one who loved sets like WS 45! I am glad I am not alone.

Yes, more non-fighting poses would be welcome in all ranges. Would make great dio possibilities.

I am glad to see I am not alone with my wish to see more non combat figures, here are a couple of Great war scenes that I would love to display in some form, one of Sauage Valley in France about 1916 with Diggers at moblie kitchens and ammo wagons on the move another of shell handlers on a heavy howitzer. I would love to see a great war field kitchen, service wagons and gun crews.
Wayne.
