Can anybody identify this one ??? (1 Viewer)

Hi,
I bought this one a while ago out of the "penny-box" from a dealer.
I do not have any further information since there are no markings
on the casting nor did I find a box or base.
Could it be a Stadden miniature??
Any help is much appreciated a reference or painting guide would
be fantastic.

It is a Chota Sahib figure of a British infantry RSM c.1900.
Cap:- dark blue with red band and welt, gloss black peak, brass badge.
Tunic:- scarlet with dark blue collar and cuffs, gold lace and buttons, white piping front and top of collar down front edge of tunic and around pockets at rear, gold badge
Sash:- crimson
Belt:- white with brass buckle, white slings, steel sword scabbard and hilt, white sword knot
Trousers:- dark blue with red piping down side seams
Boots:- black leather with high gloss toe caps
Pace stick:- varnished light wood with brass tips and top

Hi Wolfgang - Just to let you know - I have other figures from this range in my collection (e.g BI/34 RWF Drill Sgt).

I bought mine from Sarum Soldiers around 10 years or so ago. I believe he sold off some of his range of figures - and then came back into the business again a couple of years ago. If you were interested in extending your figures in this range - suggest you contact Patrick, the owner of Sarum Soldiers (he has a current online range) - and he could either provide extra figures - or if he has sold them on - let you know to whom he sold them. Hope that helps.

great info thank you very much. Yes, I am interested in getting more figures of this range. Actually I started rather recently buying 54mm figures for painting and collecting. Before that I used to concentrate on 70mm Elastolin. While living in London I bought a few Sarum castings at the Toy Soldier Show but never really went into serious collecting. I enjoyed painting the odd 54mm figure every now and than to get a "Creative Pause" from converting and casting 70mm figurines. Anyway I finally managed to spent more time on painting 54mm and developed a more serious interest. Much of that owed to this forum and some of the splendid threads on painting ect.

As for Chota Sahib I think they are a high quality range. What is available via Sarum Soldiers appears a bit confuseing to me because I am lacking the "historical knowledge" of which figures where what brand earlier. After what I have seemed to have gathered they could be marketed as Sarum, Stadden or of cause under the old original Chota Sahib label.

So I will gladly take up your suggestion and get in contact with Patrick (who does speak German really well !).
Thanks to Mirof and yourself I now got knowledge of what used to be available and what is triggering my appetite.{sm4}

There is some confusion here. I have a couple of those Sarum Studio figures that you mentioned above. Mine both have distinctive round bases and are marked with A. Stadden upon them. (Andy Stadden?) They are pretty good figures, but they aren't Chota Sahib . The packing they came in states that they were made by Sarum Soldiers Ltd, 2A Upper Tooting Park, London.

If this the same company as the link above? Those figures look much more traditional in style.

I wrote No Chota anymore, because they had in the past, the Chota Sahib moulds . now they have turned in the direction of Toy Soldiers ( painted) even if you can still order some unpainted . They are more traditional
The Stadden were sculpted by Andrew Stadden ( son of Charles )

When you say "scarlets" is that the 1902 tunic with gold lace on the collar and pointed cuffs or a plainer scarlet frock?

That full dress uniform (scarlet) would be very easy to replicate. It looks to be standard 1902 line infantry officers uniform. In 1902 the officers sash was moved to the waist and two false pockets were added to the rear of the tunic. Blue collar and cuffs indicate a royal regiment. The head gear is a "Wolsley" pattern foreign service helmet with a red pugree. Give me till the weekend and I'll make one up to show you what I mean.
The blue uniform is very like a British No1 dress (ours have five buttons). Again royal regiment is indicated by the scarlet band on the forage cap.

Hi Martin,
that jacket is actually Green- Rifles and LI are auth Green Jacket, rest of the Army services are Blue.

my Apologies- yes! Wolsley Pattern. The Regiment is- Royal Hamilton Light Infantry. (Wentworth Regiment) You might be interested to know that we have a "Ceremonial Guard" that dresses and drills as the the regiment did(then the 13th BN) during the Fenian raids here.

The Red uniform is actually the Ceremonial Dress of the Canadian Infantry for the most part- but not commonly worn, although some Regiments have worn it lately for certain Celebrations. Our Band wears this often.

The Regiment wants to go to the Green Jacket/patrols, as a more common uniform as it is distinctive to our Regiment alone (being one of two named "light Infantry" units in the OOB). The Regimental dress is not publicly funded so it gets tricky sometimes.
Usually we are in the standard army dress uniform.

I'm sorry I hadn't realised it was green, although as Canadian uniforms traditional follow the British pattern I should have realised. For instance British light infantry wore a rifle green home service helmet. All of the light infantry regiments are now part of The Rifles.
