Check this out AMAZING TOY SOLDIERS FROM BERLIN MINIATURES (1 Viewer)

Interesting...Most of their Napoleonics are on the skinny side. Grouchy looks like he hasn't had a good steak and French fries for a long time...;)

LOL, you learn something every day if you try. I was thinking that reference contained an anachronism but it turns out that recipes for Pomme frites in French cookbooks date to Menon's Les soupers de la cour (1755).;) Of course they weren't called "French" for another century of so. Thanks for the learning opportunity mate.:D

I've the moral obligation to correct you : Fries were not discovered in France but in Belgium !

It is enough for the Belgians to be an usual subject of mockery by French people about their habit of eating fries, don't add the fact to be denied the paternity of this noble invention.

As for the reason you call them French Fries...:confused:

I am afraid mate you are not correcting me; I said nothing about where they originated, only that they were available in France in time for Grouchy.;):D I left it for others to note their origin if interested, which you have ably done.:D To refine the point, I understand they originated around 1680 in the Spanish Netherlands near the Meuse Valley.

FWIW they are said to be called French because the British or American soldiers tasted Belgian fries and allegedly called them "French", as it was the official language of the Belgian Army at that time.

You should have mussels with your French fries and beer. That's one of the great food combo that our Belgium friends make (Michel I don't like the mayonnaise that you guys serve with it though ;))
Bon appétit !
