im planning to fly in that weekend.. i never bee to this show and everybody has something good to say about it. So is it worth it to spend couple hundred buck to go? do u find all those retired pieces that u been looking for?

Congratulations on the first 2009 Chicago thread.

You can find just about anything at the Chicago Show. Many of the rare and hard to find pieces are scooped up during the room trading prior to the show. If you can arrange it try to come to the show a couple of days early to join in the room trading.

I am lucky as I only live about 20 miles from the show site.

The actual show is Sunday, September 27, 2009, but collectors come as early as the Tuesday or Wednesday before the show to do room trading.:)

Hi Gus,

Without a doubt, attending the show is work a couple hundred bucks. There is an incredible variety and an endless number of toy soldiers for sale. Included in the items for sale are those produced by all manufactures, both plastic and metal figures, and both vintage and current items. From my perspective, the issue is not is the trip worth it, but can your budget stand all the temptations you will encourter! No matter how many things you purchase, you will always leave wishing you could have stretched your budget to obtained more.

Perhaps the most fun experienced at the show is renewing relationships with old friends and making new ones. While there, you live toy soldiers night and day. You talk directly to manufacturers, dealers, artists, and other collectors. How much more exciting can a trip be? Is the trip worth a couple hundred dollars? You bet it is! It is well worth that and much more.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat ;)

Chicago is the show of shows, if you can't find what you are looking for in Chicago, it probably doesn't exist, well worth a couple hundred bucks to attend.

Steven gets there very early to get the retired stuff. There's no one better than him (or is that "he") in ferreting it out :)

An absolute must for any collector, no excuse big enough not to attend.
Let me state again, it,s the room trading prior to the show that makes this what it is. I have not stayed for the show the last 5 years.
This will be my 19th consecutive year.
Speaking of which, is there anybody that can top that record?
Gary

Heck, even I've been tempted to go to Chicago, and it would cost me a bit more than two hundred bucks :)

If you could, Matt, you should go. You would have the time of your life.

Brad, I would sure love to go to several of the meets in the US, and London for that matter. The only thing stopping me now is my youngest boy as I would worry too much leaving him by himself, but he finishes High school next year so after that - you never know ;) :D

Meanwhile - Andy C, will be in Brisbane around the end of July so I will certainly be there. I'm also consider going to Canberra for his visit to the War Memorial/Museum, but man it's cold in Canberra in July - at least to me living in the Subtropics. "Cold" is relative of course, Rev Pete would probably think Canberra was "quite nice" in Winter ;) :D

I spent $1800 for flight and hotel because I brought my family the first year and it was very worth it.
