Here is some info on the show for next month....from Roger Garfield

CHICAGO TOY SOLDIER SHOW UPDATE FACTS: (as of 19 Aug 21)

 • We have 125 vendor contracts (one contract can represent 2 vendors sharing)

 • 6 of these vendors are new to CTSS. That is 5% new contracts.

 • We have 8 corridors at the Hyatt of vendors selling from their rooms. Those corridors are 90% full. There are 106 possible selling rooms, 95 are contracted to sell.

 • 84% of available tables are sold

 • We have 200 vendors, and overnight attendees staying 800 nights at the Hyatt.

 • We have seen a huge uptick in OVERNIGHT ATTENDEES. These are buyers who come from all over the US to buy at the Show. We are asked to place them on the 4[SUP]th[/SUP]and 5[SUP]th[/SUP] floors so that they can be near the selling rooms. Most stay multiple nights.
 • We currently have 65, and that number increases daily.

The job of good PR is to paint the best scenario possible.

Would we be seeing a thread like this in a normal year like 2019?

Brad since you like to always point out the "doom and gloom" of everything and CTSS is not a member on the forum I thought I would share positive news.

Matt, I simply pointed out that sometimes you have to highlight the positive when things are not the rosiest. That’s one function of public relations and there’s nothing wrong with that.

By the way, that’s an interesting way to talk to a prospective customer, probably the reason why you’re not my dealer of choice.

Moreover, you’re the one who raised the issue by starting this thread.

Again, would CTSS be putting out a statement like this if we lived in normal times? I think you know the answer.

I hope the Show does well and I wish could be there but not this year.

Just a thought: if there are so many vendors, woth lot of goos to sell and not a enough buyers...then what kind of market is that?

Tic tok tick tok...yeah, it's called a "Buyers Market"!

Hmmm, can you spell " Bargin Time"

Just a thought...

What do you guys think?

Carlos

If you are not a customer of Matt by now I think he might have realised. You have been on this forum since the start so if you have not been a customer in that time you could hardly be considered a "prospective" one now.

You are not even going to the show but naturally the first to comment. By giving the trader attendance details Matt is trying to encourage prospective attendees and promote the show. Good on him.

Thanks for the positive stats on the upcoming CTSS Show. I live within driving distance and have been on the fence about attending, fearing that it could be a wake. Although a little muted, it sounds like it will be a good show and I will now be attending. My only regret is that Andy and K&C will not be attending. The power of positive thinking is strong!

Many thanks Matt for ‘reposting’ the Show update from Roger & Jan Garfield…

It was with the greatest reluctance I had to cancel my own (and K&C’s) participation in this year’s event… International travel is an unbelievable hassle at present as well as punishing quarantine restrictions once you return to HK so I wish and hope for the very best for this year’s Show and everyone, both dealers and collectors, who take part.

The’ Chicago Show’ was and is one of the major hilights of my ‘Toy Soldier Year’ and the Garfields have ‘busted a gut’ to try and build this event for all of us since they took it over…So if you can attend…please do so…If not…please lend your support to those who do.

All the best to one and all,
Andy.

Thanks Andy...Hopefully we will see you in CA, TX or Chicago next year. I'll bring some Bourbon.

I was undecided if I was going to go to the Chicago show but today the governor of Illinois is imposing an indoor mask mandate. So for the first time in 20 plus consecutive years I shall remain at home.

No comment since Matt says I’m the “voice of doom and gloom.” :rolleyes2:

For those of you who do decide to go to the Show this year (and honestly, it is a personal choice!), I think you still will see a lot of variety of items and still see some familiar faces such as myself, Aron & Jeff!
We may bring a few new helpers that are intrigued by this event. It's always fun to bring new people as they bring a new perspective to things and see items that I never get to!

It does stink if IL has mask mandates back in place, but you are seeing variations of that everywhere. It's best to just have one with you at any time you many need or want one.

Back to some planning and work!

Julie

From Roger Sept 1. I guess I will be at City Works! They have lots of outdoor seating too.

Congratulations to Roger & Jan on their superhuman effort to keep this great show ‘on the road’ and at the Hyatt!

I truly wish I could have joined you and taken part this year but international travel and quarantine are a double nightmare…

May I wish you and everyone who takes part, both dealers and collectors, all the very best and a terrific show…You all deserve it!

I’ll be there in spirit…
Andy and all at King & Country.

I think i know what you mean, wearing a piece of material over your mouth to protect others is just too much.

PR? I had a Paper Round when i was 13.

jazzeum - I have read a few of your posts and i would call you a realist and like many of us you are neither a glass half full person or a guy with a glass half empty. Saw someone wrote you were an Attorney, have a legal question for you, is it true that God could never sue the Devil, as there are no Attorney's in Heaven and the Devil has the best Attorney's?

Keep up the questioning - issue i have with the forum is, as in life, there are way fewer answers than questions.

I am wearing a piece of cloth over my private parts to protect others and have hardly ever complained. Just saying.
