See the following album link to this changed diorama: http://www.treefrogtreasures.com/forum/album.php?albumid=1353 China river - a.JPGToy Soldiers are by King and Country, Tradition of London, British Bull Dog, CBG Mignot, Britains and Marlborough. Redoubts by JG Miniatures. The French Patrol boat was scratch built. Awaiting additional Navy personnel and Marines by King and Country to fill out US garrison.

A bit of everything in this diorama, some closer shots would be good^&cool, Robin.

Great dio. I wouldn't hold my breath for additional USN or USMC personnel for K&C though... looks like it was a dead end and the whole lot have been retired before any opposition forces have been produced. :(

Considering the number of matt manufacturers who have commercial interests in China and Hong Kong I wonder why the Boxer Rebellion is a period that seems to be universally ignored now that EOI has disappeared from the scene? I'd love to see a matt figure manufacturer take it up, but not holding my breath on that one.

Inspiring dio though, particularly like the French boat.

You can still get the retired K&C figures for the period on eBay. As to Boxers and required numbers, I may buy a few of the unpainted plastic sets and paint them up (after applying a matt spray varnish, they should hold up quite well, and you can not tell them from the metal ones until you pick them up. Since there were mostly small engagements in lieu of major battles, plus the fact that there was no uniformity to Boxer clothing, could be a major factor in lack of popularity by collectors and manufacturers. You may need a new popular movie to play up the period. I believe "Sand Pebbles" was a major influence for the K&C line.

The idea to use painted plastic's Chinese Boxer's is a very good idea....I have seen some excellent painted plastic figures.......look better in some case's than the metal. (depending on subject)......TomB

That is a great diorama! It looks like it was a lot of fun to put together! Great job on the boat!

I decided to change to more appropriate artillery pieces of British garrison. Changed Arillery 2.jpgChanged Artillery.JPGAlso this comes with more gun crews for the fight ahead. Boxers have been spotted on opposite river shore. {sm2}

Wonderful dio, well tied together. My cap is off in salute to those scratch built boats. {bravo}} Chris

I can not take credit for the scratch built boat. I bought it at a show many years ago. It fits in perfectly with this diorama. Most of the scratch built items that I made over the years are buildings, forts, and siege equipment.

I've added Chinese Boxers to the diorama. In these scenes the Boxers are approaching a US base but confronted by US Navy sailors; are preparing to ambush a French patrol boat; and finally seeing a US Navy patrol boat coming in at flank speed to fend off the ambush. BR - Ambush.JPGBR - Confrontation.JPGBR - US Navy Patrol to rescue.JPGThe Chinese boxers are "Armies in Plastic #5413" which I painted.
