Chunuk Bair diorama closing (1 Viewer)

Shame the work of so many is to be dismantled and probably never to be brought back.Peter Jackson should get some investors and build a site where it can be housed permanently. Jackson shouldn't have to pay for all of it it should be a national project.

I remember reading with great interest the making of the huge diorama. Hopefully someone will preserve the figs until another home can be found. Only 81K visitors last yr instead of the anticipated 500K seems a bit disappointing. Looks like it was time to close the exhibit due to lack of interest. Chris

Part of the problem I believe is the exhibitions location in our capital city Wellington. While Wellington is a beautiful city with loads of attractions it doesn't have the population or tourist numbers like our largest city Auckland does.

If I lived in Wellington I would have definitely returned to see it, along with Weta Workshops amazing WW1 exhibition with the giant figures!

Hopefully a more permanent location can be found, but I'm not holding my breath

Cheers.

I did offer to participate on a joint venture with lottery funding to house the Jackson dioramas and my own collection - probably in Greytown (my home town 70 km north of Welly). Unfortunately we couldn't get things off the ground. The displays are fantastic put on by such a small country. But with anything its about the numbers and unfortunately they just weren't enough.

Peter did get to view part of my collection though which kind of stroked my ego a little bit!

It looked absolutely amazing. Such a shame i couldnt get to see it in real life. Where is it now?
