Here is one of about 50 surviving daguerreotypes from the Mexican American War. Most are in poor condition with scratehes and other damage. Since you are a trauma surgeon, here is a leg amputation. The Mexican-American War is considered the 1st war recorded by photography. The dauerreotype was invented in 1839 just about a decade before the war.

I did not realize that the Mexican War had been recorded like this. Now was that a real amputation or a posed shot.
I mean all of Brady's photographs were posed or still.
There was no action photography as far as I am aware during the ACW.
