Since King and Country is going to release some Civil War figures this year (HOORAY ! :D )

Lets talk about our favorite sites and what Andy might concider for the new range?

OK - Then I will start....

How about Gettysburg ? I am going there today - I am always amazed by how small the actual battlefield was on the second and last day. Also how close those CANNONS were to the opposing troops.

My favorite is Duncan field AKA the sunken road at Shiloh. The union battery commanders report is what does it for me. The rebels swept across the field in waves our infantry would lie down in the road on both sides of the battery to avoid the murderous fire from the enemy. We were firing 2 second fuse, 1 second fuse, cannister then double cannister. At this point the infantry would rise up and pour volley fire into the ranks and yet they would reform and come again. No one who fought there ever spoiled for a fight again.

I meant Napoleon smoothbore cannons!

Oh - Sorry

Yes, many of those were there as well as rifle cannons by the Union.

Maybe - Andy could do some Cannon Asscessories for Cannons in the Civil War and Napoleonic Ranges like he did for the 1776 Am. Revolution Range?

Yes Gettysburg is wonder, beautiful and a place that I have fond memories of. I especially liked the national cemetery, the monuments and the great town of modern-day Gettysburg.

My family and I took a summer vacation in the 1980’s to visit my in-laws in Tennessee. I took that as an opportunity to tour Chattanooga and Chickamauga. Along with every other CW battle site I could visit when I got bored visiting with my mother-in-law.

I have visited maybe 20 or 30 battlefields before and since then all across the south and I would say that this area of the country has some of the most beautiful and well-preserved battle sites. Chickamauga was especially beautiful.

When we were there, in the spring, it was spectacular, the morning fog and mist were just rising and everything was green and lush. The battlefield has a road system that takes you through the area and each unit, state, or veterans group erected monuments to events that took place in a spot where a unit, an individual or just as a remembrance occured. The men who were involved in the battle erected these monuments and each of them is a true work of art. Beauty is not a good enough word to describe my experiences with this battlefield. And the view from the top of Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga was spectacular.

Ron,this is a good idea for a thread.Am really hoping to go to some of these places next year.Every episode of Ken Burns series just makes me want to go more. Are there any actual earthworks left like on ww1 battlefields?.

Antietam is a great battlefield. It divides nicely in three parts - cornfield, sunken road, and Burnside's Bridge. Nothing compares though to Little Round Top at Gettysburg. A great view of the field - so many historic actions on or near that spot - Devil's den, wheatfield, peach orchid, Chamberlain and the 20th Maine holding the end of the line. Remember Strong Vincent and Patrick O'Rorke? They are mostly forgotten now but real heroes. The Confederate vantage point from Pickett's charge always has a stirring effect. I have walked from the jumping off point to the "high water" mark. Although the field looks flat from a distance when you are actually down on it, it rises and falls slightly like the waves on the ocean so that periodically you disappear from the Union lines. It took me nearly 20 minutes to make the walk across. Imagine doing that with the entire union army firing down on you.

It has been awhile since I have been back to North Georgia and Eastern Tenn. - You are right the Civil War Parks are wonderful. I also really enjoy Cades Cove in the National Park there - its like steping back into time.

Wonderful part of the US - brings back great memeories too.

Actually - you should say: NAPOLEON IS MY LEADER ! - I think that will do. :D

Gettysburg's best feature is the 2 hour double decker bus tour ,with headphone driven battle representation ,as you hit each defining spot, during the 3 days of battle. Any newcomer to the field should do that tour first and then you will see the sights and feel the action as seen by the particpants....If anyone is planning on visiting the battlefield, let me know and my wife and I will try to guide you through a day there. We only live an hour from Gettysburg and spend a alot of days there ,every year...........Michael

Thanks Ron thats very kind of you.Sorry but i can't get to the museum before 19th but will pick up some stuff for you when i'm there

Gettysburg is a great place. It's how I got into the toy soldier hobby. Don't know if it's still the case, but when I was there it seemed like there was a toy soldier shop on every corner.
