A few years ago, I used Crayola Air Dry clay to create a muddy road for a Bulge diorama I made. It turned out great, but now it's cracking and tuning into white dust on the edges. Eventually I'd like to redo the dio using better clay. Is there a better air dry option that won't break down like Crayola?

I was also going to suggest wood putty, like Elmer's. You can thin it with water, to make it easier to spread, and then apply it over any kind of a core, like wood or foam, texture it, stick things in it, and also use it to coat and texture your building surfaces. I've got a small base in progress, I'll get some pictures together and show them.

Prosit!
