Sometimes we forget how expansive our hobby is and the wonderful people we meet in this hobby. I have been fortunate to visit a number of collectors the past month and view their collections. The depth and breath of their collections are truly awe inspiring and have to be seen to be believed. So much to see in so little time. One could spend days just marveling at all the different displays with all the different makers, styles, sizes, periods, compositions and militaria. After quite a bit of drooling, I managed to put my jaw back in place and take some photos. The photos do not do justice to their collections, but I hope it captured a little something for everybody.

First collection is from a gentleman I knew as a customer for over two decades and unaware he collected. Sadly, he passed away recently. However, a fellow collector arranged a visit to his home and view his collection. Much of it had already been donated to a museum - I believe he had one of the best collection of flats which the family donated to the museum. He collected for over 50 years and his displays reflect a variety of interests. The figures range in size, composition and paint styles. There are metal as well as plastic kit vehicles and wood boats. Manufacturers ranged from Elastolin, Stadden, Mignot, Britains, Tradition, Frontline, Grenwwod & Ball, Trophy, King & Country, Somerset and other makers I could not identify. The displays range from the Roman era to the present day.

Second collection is primarily WW2 and what a collection it is!! He also shares the same collecting addiction - a completist and that multiples are a must!! Figures and vehicles are from King & Country (Just about every WW2 item made!), Honour Bound (all the jagdpanthers and seven Gold Edition Tigers), Figarti (LST and the Train with Karl), Collector's Showcase, Metal Shed and Britains. I may have left some others out as there was so much to see. The displays and dioramas were truly a sight to behold - some are custom made from King & Country and Hudson & Allen. Many old K&C that I have not seen and in numbers!! A great collection and more importantly, a great individual who is as passionate about his family and friends as he is with his hobby or should I say hobbies!! More photos in my albums section under collections.

Nice photos Larry. They show off those big collections very well. I still find it hard to believe at how big some of the collections can become.

Third collection belongs to a gentleman who collects St. Petersburg figures, Trophy, Edmunds, and Dimestore. We spent an enjoyable afternoon speaking about the hobby, family, history, current events and the military. A true gentleman of the hobby.

Last collection came from Italy while I was traveling with my wife and daughter. we visited the showroom of an Italian toy soldier distributor, Saimex. They sell K&C, Jenkins and their own brand Allotoys. If you go to Italy, it is worth a detour to see the showroom. The owner, Stefano also displays his personal collection. My guide was Alex and I cannot tell you how friendly and helpful he was in showing me around not just the showroom, but the city of Carpi. He arranged a truly sumptuous and outstanding lunch for us and treated us as if we were family. His hospitality and enjoyable company made our trip to Italy memorable. Carpi is located between Milan and Florence, so a great place to stop and visit!

Hi Lawrence,

I really enjoyed the photographs of the collectors' displays.

These help with my planning for future display of my collection.

Thanks for posting these great shots.

Best, Raymond.

Lawrence,

My first thought is the magnitude of packaging/moving that the family must deal with...hopefully he had a son or such that was able to put things together? Thanks for sharing the photo's as they are impressive collections and well laid out!

Lawrence, you forgot to show another collection...yours. How about some pics of your display area?

Hi Lawrence,

Thanks for showing these delightful collections which are certainly well-displayed.

Thanks for sharing these, Lawrence! I especially liked the gentleman's group of Vertunni figures, you don't often see anyone with a collection of them, more than a couple of figures.

Prost!
Brad

The tan double turret armored car..Who made that..I have the same car painted different with no mfg. markings on it..When I showed it to the forum several years ago, no one could identify it.. Just curious. Michael
