WOW!!! Thanks for posting these remarkable collections!!! They are all magnificent but, I particularly enjoy the ones with a lot of variety in them. A mix of matt, gloss, flats, scales, eras and with uncommon manufacturers represented makes for a very interesting collection and I'm sure invokes a lot more conversation from the people viewing it.

I'm also starting to breakout, away from the usual suspects to get that same effect. I don't know anything about the Vertunni make... are they still producing figures? Very Nice.

Those are some collections, Larry! The last one contains the piece that brought me and Hans together: the original K&C Arnhem Bridge Diorama. The same somewhat less than reputable dealer (whose name will remain unmentioned to protect the guilty) had promised each of us the Bridge in exchange for spending thousands of dollars on K&C marked up 20% over retail, then (unbelievably:rolleyes2 introduced us! Its nice to see the diorama, which in my opinion was one of Andy and Gordon's great early pieces, made it into the hands of a collector who obviously appreciates it.:smile2:

I remember the first time I saw that Arnhem Bridge in the flesh, it was at the first OTSN show I ever attended and as I walked down the long hallway to the main ballroom and came around the corner, there she was in all of her glory; what a stunning piece to say the least, glad it ended up where it did (no offense to either Louis or Hans intended).

Those pictures are incredible, many K & C dioramas, many Conte terrain items, many other custom pieces, just spectacular, the shelves are terrific as well, collector "X" as we'lll call him to protect his ID is one avid collector..............................incredible.

Just a quick sketch from memory...Vertunni was a French maker of solid 54mm historical figures, with a concentration on Napoleonic subjects, but with subjects from other periods represented.

If I remember correctly, he began producing before the war, but his production was interrupted, and then resumed after the Liberation. I think he was still producing his figures into the early 50's, but passed away around that time.

I think a Japanese maker copied some of his figures, such as one of Napoleon, in a cloak, as First Consul, but the name of that company escapes me.

Vertunni's figures were of higher quality than the toy soldiers available on the market at the same time, and of a style similar to Madame Metayer's or Madame Desfontaine's figures. Today, they're sought after eagerly, with single figures going for anywhere from $100 to $250 or more on eBay auctions, for example. I have 2 Vertunnis in my collection, a figure of Maria Theresa, and a figure of Louis XV.

Richard O'Brien has a chapter on Vertunni in his "Collecting Toy Soldiers", so I'll have to check the details as far as the timeline is concerned, but I think I'm correct. Maybe someone else can correct me or fill in the gaps, in the meantime.

Holy crap, so much great stuff. Those cabinets are superb too. Well done on amassing such a collction.

My same reaction when I saw his room - well, actually, my reaction was more of an R-rated version :tongue: The collector had them custom made and had some shelving done with a mix of wood and glass, so you could look down into the lower shelfs. Really a great room, but not the only one for his toys {eek3}

Some incredible collections out there, but more importantly, it is the collectors themselves who are incredible :smile2: Agree with you that it is one of K&C's best dioramas and glad it has found a great home!

Amazing how much people collect over a period of time.When I think back of what I've bought in the last 15 years it kind of staggers the mind.

Amazing what one accumulates over time and how one's collecting interests and habits change over time as well. Fascinating to see how looking at a collection provides insight into a collector's personality.
