Thank you for your very find additions to this thread:)

"The painting below, depicts Dr. William Brydon, an assistant surgeon in the Bengal Army arriving at the gates of Jellabad on his exhausted and dying horse. He was thought to be the sole survivor of some 16,000 strong army and followers from Kabul, which was forced to retreat the 90 miles over snow covered passes to Jellabad during the first Aghan war. A few others eventually struggled through to the fort."

John (beating retreat), can you tell me who makes the glossy Indian lancers in your posts? They are spectacular. Thanks, lancer

They are castings John painted that were issued by the British Model Soldier Society. Except for the Tent Pegging that John posted a while back I believe the others are available. You can commission John to paint one. Just PM him.

Hi Lancer, the dismounted Madras lancer officer is made by Tradition (squadron)range the Bhopal lancer is built from a chota sahib body (Sarum Soldiers now) and the book arm and head from the spares box.

The mounted Madras Lancer I bought it as a casting from A company called Lancer but it is now made by ATS as castings or painted, if you wanted special items like this then PM me , I have an extensive spares box and can make and paint most regiments

Regards John

This is a nice figure, my son gave me it for last Xmas (still to paint) did you paint this in the matte finish yourself.

Cheers John

Yes, it's one of the Squadron Range. There is about 30 Indian State Force figures within that series plus several other Indian Army types. They are still available from Tradition.

Many thanks for the response and offer John. The figures are beautifully painted and the high gloss finish really captures my eye. I doubt that I can afford custom figures but the offer is much appreciated. It is nice to admire and dream about those beautiful Indian lancers. -- Al

Hello Randy,

Many thanks for posting the painting by Lady Butler. I think it is one of her best pieces.

Thanks also to Trooper for posting the image of the set showing Dr. Brydon arriving at Jalalabad on his exhausted horse.

Alas, I have checked the BMSS website and this figure, like the tent pegging one, is no longer available.

Does Tradition have one of these as well? I don't seem to be able to find it.

Best, Raymond.
